Thanks for the mention Chris!
I also thank you because through it I found this group, which appears to be a great resource.

Great stuff Grant - what a surprise. Welcome to LT and to this group! I'm sure you are going to be posting some interesting messages and keeping us up-to-date on bird books!

One more thing Grant. You don't happen to be related to Jeff McCreary, do you? I lived in Nicaragua for a while and went birding with him on a couple of occasions.

Thanks for the post in #1 Chris. I'd not known of that site. It appears interesting. I assume Grant that you are involved in the site. Nice work.
As to reviews....
I recently acquired the new Peterson and must say
I am somewhat disappointed. I have not had time yet to read it in depth yet but I don't expect the first impression will change. The new edition is enlarged but in physical size only it seems. The editors were faced with three options for size. First they could have maintained the original Peterson size..(Yea) a great pocketable size. Second they could have gone to the NG Field Guide size... only fits in that one pair of birding pants with the big pocket, or in the waist band at the small of the back. Or third the could go to the Sibley size.... in the car or in a shoulder bag.
They chose the Sibley size. So the competition is against Sibley. Once opening the books Sibleys wins hands down. The new Peterson's contains no new pictures to help ID birds only very enlarged copies of the original Peterson's smaller sized guide. This is a real disappointment if the intention is to compete with Sibley's guide. As for the text, as I mentioned I have not had time yet to read it in detail but it seems only a reprint of the smaller version. So all in all a disappointment.
