Do you have the same name on here as you do bookcrossing?

I do not have the same name on here. My name here is dreammy and my bookcrossing name is dreammer.

I used to be silentmiaouw on bookcrossing but I've changed it to over-the-moon (had to include the hyphens) because I was getting confused about who I really am. And overthemoon on flickr.

I got a catch this week from a book I donated to The Book Thing the day I was there. That book is being taken to Canada!.

Welcome to LT, ladybug74. LibraryThing goes great with BookCrossing! Be sure to check out the Early Reviewers and Member Giveaways programs here at LT. I just love them!

I saw that you have a bookring going for Duma Key. My husband and I just loved that book. I'm glad King is back at his good writing. I think that's become my favorite book of his so far. It has now beat out Hearts in Atlantis which was the one I loved the best before he wrote Duma Key.

40jumpingin
Mar 22, 2009, 12:07 pm

I've just joined LT too (about two minutes ago--of course the first thing I did was look for the Bookcrossers!). I am jumpingin in both places.

41ladybug74
Mar 22, 2009, 2:07 pm

I liked Duma Key the best of the books that King has written recently, but my all time favorites will probably always be It and The Stand. Those are 2 of my favorite all time books!

I was led here by a journal entry from a fellow bookcrosser and I also headed straight for the bookcrossing discussions. Now I have one more book website to be addicted to!

47SqueakyChu
Jul 5, 2009, 9:51 pm

Hi Ritulia,

It's nice to meet a BookCrosser who also is a member of LibraryThing. Both are my very serious addictions. :)

BookCrossers are truly fun people. I am actually the person who started seeking out other Bookcrossers in real life a few years ago when I was asked to man a Bookcrossing table at a community book fair. I did so myself by giving away 25 regeistered books. The next year, I asked for help and two other local Bookcrossers (creativeMGE and crrcookie) came out to meet me and help me. The following year, we had an active group, so active, in fact, that all of us gave away over 1,000 registered books for that same book fair. As it turned out, we have become now a real group (BC in DC) with monthly meetings and have won the bid to host a BookCrossing international convention!!

Bottom line. Don't be shy. Bookcrossers are very friendly and fun people.

48TheoClarke
Jul 6, 2009, 4:47 am

Hi Ritulia. SqueakyChu's opinion of bookcrossers matches mine. The group meet in Ipswich is friendly and fun.

And, to keep this on topic: my BC handle is the same as this one.

49LyzzyBee
Jul 6, 2009, 9:20 am

Yup - we're all friendly and lovely and love to get new members at our meetups! You could maybe see if they have a yahoo or meetup group where you can say a shy hello and get to "know" a few names first. WOrth posting in the forums to ask if there is. For example, we have one for Birmingham Bookcrossers, and in our polls to find out who's going to the meetup each month, we have a category for "I'm going, but it's my first time and I'm a bit nervous", so we can make sure that person is looked out for and after.

Good luck!

50Ritulia
Jul 6, 2009, 8:41 pm

Yeah, that's what I've done: through a group on LT I've found the OZ BCers yahoo group, and from there - the Melbourne one.
The only problem is that I'm a bit of a sociophobe...
But thanks everyone for kind words. :)

51LyzzyBee
Jul 7, 2009, 4:22 pm

Well I'd just be honest, post about that or get talking to a couple of people about how you feel on the group. We have a couple of agoraphobic people in our group who rely on being able to come out to see a friendly and accepting group of people once a month, and BookCrossing itself and the group have helped me through all sorts of issues - I have to go out cos I owe this person a book, etc! Good luck!

I've been on BC for long enough for my BC bookshelf to become enormous! I'm tqd on bookcrossing (and bookmooch, and livejournal) and wookiebender here (and on flickr).

And Ritulia, we are a lovely bunch, just drop by meetup with some books and you'll be welcome with open arms. (And even if you don't bring books, you'll definitely leave with books. ;)

Ago 1, 2009, 7:01 pm

Hello,

I'm Rabenaas whereever I am in the www.
Meeting other Bookcrossers in real life with this name is a little uhhm- embarrasing. It's german and means something like "cunning bastard" (its the second name of my cat). When I choosed this name I never imagined me walking in a coffee-shap, telling a bunch of stragers "Hi, i'm Rabenaas"

59SqueakyChu
Ago 2, 2009, 10:47 am

Your name, Rabenaas, is a bit strange, but that's okay. At least it's unusual.

My screen name is the name of a hamster I once had. :)

60crazy4reading
Feb 16, 2010, 12:57 pm

I have the same name on LT and BC. I have only released a few books. I just haven't found any that I wanted to get rid of. I haven't been able to find a close group of BCer's yet either. I was supposed to go to a meet up on Super Bowl Sunday and decided against it because 1. it was the super bowl and 2. we received over a foot or more of snow.

I do want to either meet up with them or find a closer group to me. I just don't want to travel hours to meet people just yet.

61bluesalamanders
Feb 16, 2010, 1:41 pm

I have the same name on BC too. I just released my first book! My sister got it from freelunch via member giveaway here, she gave it to me, and I gave it to a friend yesterday.

Getting it inspired me to join. I ordered some bookplates and bookmarks and I'm going to start.

62SqueakyChu
Feb 16, 2010, 7:31 pm

Too bad you're in central Pennsylvania, Monica. There's an active Bookcrossing group in Audubon, Pennsylvania. I think that's near Philadelphia. Sometimes they come down to Baltimore to meet the DC area group (my group, called BC in DC) at The Book Thing. It's always fun when we get together. Maybe you should start your own Central Pennsylvania Bookcrossing group? What'cha think?

63SqueakyChu
Feb 16, 2010, 7:35 pm

--> 61

I find Bookcrossing so much fun. Glad you're enjoying it as well. Just realize that most people who receive Bookcrossing books don't end up journaling them, despite the effort we all make in having them do so. Nevertheless, that makes the journal entries of those who do journal BookCrossing books all the more exciting. Enjoy!

64bluesalamanders
Feb 16, 2010, 7:47 pm

63 SqueakyChu

Yeah, I read some forum posts about where are good places to leave books and there were quite a few posters who were bitter about people not journaling. I'll try not to become one of the bitter ones :D

65SqueakyChu
Editado: Feb 16, 2010, 7:59 pm

In my experience (before I stopped counting), I've gotten about 10% of my books journaled. What is really odd, though, is that the people who are least likely to journal books are those to whom I explain exactly how to do the journaling. The people who are most likely to journal the books (beside active Bookcrossers) are those people who find a book at random. Go figure! :D

Did you know that you can set your profile page here at LibraryThing to directly link to your profile page on BookCrossing? Just add BookCrossing to your "Also On..."

66bluesalamanders
Feb 16, 2010, 8:03 pm

I hadn't thought about it (the direct linkage) but I knew it was possible, yeah.

That's really weird about who does and doesn't journal the books! I'm sure there's a psychology experiment in there somewhere :P

67crazy4reading
Feb 17, 2010, 8:25 am

Squeaky, I actually live in Delaware County near the Delaware Border and outside of Philadelphia. I am thinking of going to the meeting in Audubon in a few weeks if I can talk my hubby into driving me there or going with me. I just wish there was one in Delaware county.
I have noticed that there is one person who does alot of wild releases in Delaware County. I just need to tak the time and send her a message to see if she lives in the vacinity and to see if she is in a group.

I just released my first book. I have been taking baby steps and doing it really slow. I have to start looking for books when I am out and about and possibly leave some just sitting around. My first release was a controlled one. I sent it someone and hope that maybe they will journal the book or at the least pass it on to someone else.

68SqueakyChu
Feb 17, 2010, 7:51 pm

If you're close enough to Audubon, Pennsylvania, that's the group to join because they're a very active group. That's what you want. If you go one of their meetings, give regards to everyone from SqueakyChu of BC in DC.

I have to start looking for books when I am out and about

Have you signed up for release alerts?

69crazy4reading
Feb 17, 2010, 10:26 pm

Yes I have signed up for release alerts. The only problem is they are all at places that are about hour away or more. I work all day and don't get to go out to the malls like King of Prussia. The group in Audubon is in Montgomery County. I just have to try and find my way there. I am known to get lost very easily. Terrible sense of direction when it comes to driving in my car. I have received alerts but sometimes I don't check my email for a few days or weeks and by then I figure the books are gone.

70wookiebender
Feb 17, 2010, 10:43 pm

Hi crazy4reading. Sometimes books do go fast (I never bother tracking down books that have been wild released in a park, for instance; and ones released on public transport are instantly gone as I'm never going to be able to get the same bus/train!). But sometimes books also do linger for a while. I've released many books in cafes, and they tend to stick around for quite a while (sometimes I have to go and shake them loose by moving them to a park or a bus!).

Have fun releasing!

71crazy4reading
Feb 18, 2010, 8:55 am

Hi Wookiebender. That is what I figured because a few of the books have been released on transit which I know I won't be able to catch. Some released in the mall I know I won't find because the mall is about an hour away from me. There is a cafe that I have to visit because I think there are books there. I just need to have the time to search for the books.

I now need to feel comfortable releasing books in the wild. I think once I find a book I will feel more comfortable releasing books.

72LyzzyBee
Feb 18, 2010, 9:23 am

I'd suggest going to the mall, asking for Lost Property and seeing if any of the books are in there - a friend of mine did that with good results and thrilled a load of BCers who suddenly heard back from their books!

73crazy4reading
Feb 18, 2010, 9:43 am

Ah I never thought of that. Thanks LyzzyBee. I should tell my daughter to do that since she is closer to that mall then I am.
