I just started reading Hilary Mantel's A Place of Greater Safety. Watching the John Adams series recently I wanted more information on the French Revolution, so when I saw this novel recommended, and I remembered enjoying a couple of Mantel's (not historical) novels I thought I'd check it out. So far it is definitely worth hefting the 748 pages!

This book sounds interesting. I read a bit about it on Amazon. I'm going to add it to my "to read" list, though I may not get around to it until next year. What about Mantel's other novels...can you recommend any?

Wolf Hall is her Man Booker winner (2009) and actually worth reading (sorry, most of the recent Bookers are, well ...). Thumping good historical fiction. Haven't read its sequel just out this year.

I can also recommend Mantel's Fludd, which is rather odd but entrancing.
