Sadly, I must be more out of touch with contemporary poetry than I thought; not a single poet's name is familiar.

It's for writers under 30 in general, rather than poets: From http://www.thedylanthomasprize.com/:

The 2008 Prize is open to young writers of any nationality, from anywhere in the world, writing in English. Writers must be under 30 years of age on 3rd April 2007. The following Genres are all eligible for entry: novels, collections of short stories, poetry, screenplays, radio and theatre plays.

To be eligible a Literary Work must have been commercially published, for the first time in the English Language between 27th April 2006 and 30th April 2008. For TV writing and theatrical films the script or screenplay must have been commissioned between 27th April 2006 and 30th April 2008

Thanks, Tim. I was too lazy to read the requirements.

I have the book The Road which is a novel and I have not yet read. The others are not familiar to me so a great list to explore. It is good to see a prize for younger writers.

The shortlist for this year's Dylan Thomas Prize has been annnounced:

Caroline Bird, 23, for (this book of short stories is available in the UK and US, but I couldn't find it on LT)

Elyse Fenton, 29, for
Clamor (another book I couldn't find on LT, a collection of poetry published by the Cleveland State University Poetry Center this spring)

Eleanor Catton, 24, for The Rehearsal (I have this book, as it was longlisted for this year's Orange Prize, and I'll read it soon; FlossieT interviewed the author in an issue of Belletrista earlier this year)

Emilie Mackie, 27, for And This is True

Karan Mahajan, 26, for Family Planning

Nadifa Mohamed, 28, for Black Mamba Boy (shortlisted for this year's Orange Prize, a book that I read and enjoyed earlier this year)

The winner will be announced in Swansea, South Wales on November 9.

American short story writer Claire Vaye Watkins has been named the 2013 winner of the £30,000 Dylan Thomas Prize for new writers. Judges said she was an "exceptional" writer and described her collection Battleborn as "infectious".
