I am curious. I think I'm having some difficulty with the re-charging of my Kindle. Let me explain. Today, while I was reading, suddenly my Kindle froze. The battery was showing that the power was down by only about 25%; I'd charged the device only a day or two before. I turned off the Kindle and tried to turn it back on again with no result.

At that point, I called customer service and they had me reset the battery. The gentleman then told me (once the system had come back on) to allow the battery to recharge. He very specifically told me to turn off the wireless, plug the charger in and then it didn't matter if I read or if I just let it sit. The point was to allow it to recharge.

Has anyone else had this difficulty? Does this sound like it is just a battery problem? I've read that the battery light on the screen isn't always reliable and I just want to hear from others.

I wish I could help, but I haven't had this problem. Rarely my kindle has frozen and I have had to reset it, but I don't think it was a battery issue. I follow amazon's instructions to frequently recharge the battery vs. letting it get low. when I am not reading I just plug it in.

It all worked out, tasidog! Like any newbie, I just missed some of the basic instructions for feeding and caring for a Kindle. The Kindle is now happy and I downloaded the Sunday New York Times (complete with Book Review and Magazine) this am. What a bargain! Only 75 cents for what would cost me $2.50 in print.

I know, the NYT is a bargain. I have to admit I have been taking advantage of the 2 week free subscriptions for newspapers. to date I have used the NYT, the Boston Herald, the LA Times and am now on the Philly paper for free. It is actually fun to see how different places report news (and it is for free as long as you cancel before the 14 days is up). But, so far the NYT is the very best and I will probably end up subscribing.

Anyone try the US News and World Report yet? I get Newsweek at home and don't think I would like it on the kindle because I would miss all those images. On the other hand, Newsweek is getting to glamour/hollywood for my taste. I think US News might be better. I have contemplated switching long before I got my Kindle.

I get the AP newsfeeds, U.S & World. They're updated several times a day and they're much cheaper than the newspaper subscriptions.

The only freezing problem I've had with my K2 was caused by the unlighted, hinged cover (though Amazon hasn't yet admitted this is a problem.) Once removed, no more freezes.
