I am wondering if anyone has had experience with the m-edge cover for the kindle? I don't have huge complaints with my original cover, but I would like something that was a little more secure and softer to the touch. So if you have any comments/reviews please post them!

There's an old thread on the subject here: http://www.librarything.com/talktopic.php?topic=35064

I wound up getting the leather M-Edge, I'm very pleased with it.

I'll be waiting for feedback from both of you as I have to wait a bit before I stress the budget more by buying the leather cover. But I really think I want one so you'll have to let me know if it's worth the $$$$.

I will be waiting, also. It does look lovely, but I'd like to hear from someone how it is before plunking down the cash. :)

I`ve had mine about two weeks and would not give it up. My shelves runneth over of REAL books and no room for more shelves. Using this device is very easy and makes reading as pleasurable as ever. I`ve hd trouble downloading FREE books for sources other than Amazon, but think that is just inexperience (or denseness Ha!)

What's been the problem with free sources?

Sorry, I''ve not posted sooner....
YES I got my medge cover in red a few days ago.....and while I gagged at the price, (I bought the leather one) I must say it was worth it. The feel alone is awesome. Leather smells so good! I love the little pockets on the inside cover...can hold business cards, or a few sheets of paper to take nots. Has a pen/pencil holder which doesn't get in the way at all. It feels more 'protective' to the Kindle than the other one, and it does not at all add to the weight.. Now I'm not embarrased to take my Kindle out in public.LOL....

I've not had problems downloading books from the free sites.
www.feedbooks.com
lets you download the catalog to your kindle, then you can either download directly from there, or 'surf' online and download to your laptop, then send to your kindle via the USB cord included
www.mobileread.com
does the same thing.
www..mnybks.com lets you enter just the book number from your kindle if you so choose and download.
I am a nut about sorting by author first, and feedbooks.com always sorts them correctly.......some of the other books from other sites will just arbitrarily sort to the last page.....formatting.

oops
that was

desertgrandma, thanks for your post. I ordered the cover (in saddle) but is out of stock until the 16th. I will let you know when it comes.

desertgrandma, I was looking at the red, as well. Between you and Garry both giving it a thumbs up, I think I may bite the bullet and shell out the cash. :)

I missed your helpful suggestion being gone for the weekend. Finally got the feedbooks guide to download directly to my Kin, but so far no luck with the manybooks.net or mobileread. The books download fine to my Mac, but doing (I think) the correct procedure hooking Kin to the port, and dropping the book on Kin icon, the book never appears on the Kin. Maybe a Mac is different. I keep reading the instructions but get nowhere. Judy Kerr

Make sure when you drag books over to the Kindle, that they're going into the Documents folder.

If you can browse the Kindle from your Mac, I'll bet that your books are on the Kindle, only in the root directory (a PC term, I have no idea what that's called on a Mac.) Kindle will only 'see' books that are in the Documents folder.

Kerrim....for the mobileread guide, enter this into your kindle browser
www.mobileread.com/mobiguide
double check your spelling, then hit 'submit 'It will ask you if you want to download a file to your kindle, click 'Ok" Watch the little bar at the bottom, it will show you the percentage loading..10%, 25 %, etc...when it hits 100%, hit the home page, click the "m' key, it should take you to the page where mobileread guide is, if you sort by author.
You can do the same for
www.mnybks.com
Now, you can 'surf' online on your laptop, at these places, find the book you want, THEN go to your Kindle, open the guide of your choice, and download from there. Hope this doesn't make it too confusing. I"m not a mac person so I can't advise you there........

You two are great! I`m off to the porch to try this scheme. The sprint connection is much better outside.

Ha! I DID get the mobileread connection and even ordered a book instantly. The mnybks kept reverting to Amazon. I couldn`t find any way to avoid that, but will keep trying. Thanks lots!! We are having perfect days here in the midwest and weep for those still cleaning up from the horrific floods. Some towns are voting whether or not to abandon the town.

I"m not sure what you mean by

I expect to buy a new cover for my Kindle sometime over the course of the next six to eight weeks. At the moment, I can't decide between the M-Edge red executive leather one or the one from Waterfield Designs (http://www.sfbags.com/). Very nice!

22desertgrandma
Jul 14, 2008, 8:43 pm

They are both very nice.....I think it boils down to a personal decision....which one do YOU like best? Well, sounds like you have time to do some more research! I think the amazon posts have a thread on both.......

Jillmwo,
I looked at the sfbags.com site and the main difference I can see between those and the M-edge (which I own) is that the M-edge lets you read the kindle while in the cover while the Waterfield designs appear to be for storage only, you have to read the Kindle out of them. As others have said I guess it comes down to what YOU want. I love the M-edge by the way.

Well, I put an order in through Amazon for the M-edge cover. It's on back-order until the end of the month so I'll get it in a couple of weeks.

Jul 20, 2008, 12:14 am

I decided to order it and then got the backorder message and canceled because I am going on a long vacation in august... sigh... well I guess I will wait until I get back in september. So let me know what you think!

26Demiguise
Jul 20, 2008, 8:02 am

I also am on backorder for the red cover. I'm not going anywhere, more's the pity, so I let the order stand. Come early August, Marius will be properly dressed in red and maybe my ADD will have abated. :)

27tasidog
Jul 22, 2008, 4:45 pm

well the nice thing about this vacation is that instead of packing books, I am just filling my kindle with books! (almost all free classics).

I envy you getting away, tasidog. :) Hope you have a great time on your vacation!

Thanks Demiguise! Hoping for some sun and heat to mellow out those touches of arthritis!! And I have found that the kindle is wonderful to read in the full sun! No glare and easy to read.

Just a quick update -- My M-edge cover arrived this week and it is really so very nice! Thanks for the recommendation.

Did you hear that Amazon has sold 240,000 Kindles since last November?

31tasidog
Ago 3, 2008, 11:42 pm

well, I broke down and had the m-edge cover delivered to the hotel where i am vacationing with my family. I love it! It has corners for all four sides, pockets and a pen holder. It folds back for easy reading and protects it from accidental drops. Well worth the money. The question is, why couldn't amazon provide a classy cover like this? Oh, and I have downloaded Winston Churchhill's six volume series on WWII - so far a wonderful read.

30 & 31:

Great to hear you both like the m-edge cover. I have been thinking about it, but thought I would wait until the standard one breaks, which shouldn't be too long now. My one concern is: do you think the cover is sturdy enough? I thought I read somewhere that the m-edge was not as stiff as the original cover. I don't throw my kindle around, but it does get stuffed in my purse sometimes.

Thanks.

33tasidog

It is very sturdy. It also folds back much easier than the original cover, and has pockets on the left side and a pencil/pen loop. I really do recommend it!

The pockets are great. Mine is holding a check that needs to be deposited in the bank and memo paper with notes I've been taking from one of the books I'm reading. Handy pen holder as well!

Actually I think the medge cover provides great protection. I'm carrying my Kindle with me daily in my tote to and from the office and this seems to be working just fine in shielding the device from inadvertent bumps and thumps.

I looked up the M-Edge on Amazon and, frankly, choked on the price. I admit it looks good and would certainly allow me to read while in the case but I will have to take a deep breath before I buy even the non-leather one.
