What your family is reading, November and December 2006

Please share what you all are reading! Read-alouds, assigned readings, and books for pleasure. (I thought we'd combine the last two months of the year because they are busy with holiday stuff!)

We don't read together anymore, however, when one of us reads a great book, we pass it along to the others, the latest was Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. In a very strange and twisted way, it embodies the Spirit of Christmas in the charachter of Death. Some metaphor there? If there is, I don't think it was intended by the author. Anyway, not recommended for young families, or anyone who doesn't like British humor.

We're so busy right now that the only thing we manage to read all together is our nightly Bible reading. Other than that, I'm reading Little House in the Big Woods to our 6 yo son, and Mattimeo to our 10 yo son. Our daughters, 15 yo and 17 yo, just finished reading the newest book from A Series of Unfortunate Events.

We had started reading David Copperfield all together back in January. Unfortunately it got set aside once summer hit, and I've never gotten back to it. We really need to pick that back up again. I only read it for about 15 minutes at a time; you'd think I could squeeze it in somewhere!

Well, my oldest dd finished Eragon so that she can see the movie! (That's a deal we have--if it's coming out as a movie, they can't go to see it until they read the book first. ;o) She will be starting Hitty: Her First Hundred Years because she and I are going to do a short unit study on it for older students from Five in a Row.

Oldest ds finished Peter and the Shadow Thieves and is going to start Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke.

We have been reading a lot of fun Christmas picture books with the little ones, too!

We just finished reading Treasure Island and my son loved it. He wanted to know if there was a sequel! He has picked out Peter Pan to read next. I'm sure that he will love it.
My girls are little yet, so we still read alot of picture books. I find their attention spam isn't long enough for a chapter book, too many toys....lol!

Hi I'm a home schooled kid and my family just finished "Spiderweb for Two:A Melendy Maze" by Elizabeth Enright. It is really good and is the fourth and final book in the "Melendy Quartet".
