vampire on a river boat?

I am trying to find the title of a book I read some years ago. It was a stand-alone title, not a series, about vampires in the south which takes place in the 1800's. A vampire is aboard a river boat and eats people that are brought to him. I remember it as an incredibly dark novel that I didn't finish, but now I want to find it. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
