****Spoilers****

I have a question about something that happened in A Breath of Snow and Ashes and I can't figure it out.
Ok, Malva said she could prove she had been with Jamie because she knew of a scar in a descreet place that no one could see just because his shirt was off. Jamie does have the scar...so, how does Malva know about it if she wasn't with him??????

Hi MDLady -- if you haven't read through the entire book yet, the question may yet be resolved. I seem to remember their being an explanation for this, but I'll be darned if I can remember the exact answer. I listened to this in audiobook format, so I can't go back to the book to try and find it very easily...

Darn it. I don't own the book. My mom has it. but I agree with missylc, there is an explanation.

I have read through it and there is no explanation at all. That's why I am so curious. Some of the people on My outlander Fans Myspace say that they just think she saw the scar or read about it in Claire's book. As Claire was treating Jamie after the snake bite, Malva could have been a peeping tom. Can't say that I blame the girl myself. But, there was no clear explanation.

ETA
for #3 get it and read it. It's my favorite book of the series...so far.

Oh, you misunderstand, MDLady... I have read them all and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them all. I have read them at least 3 times. I only own the first 3, my mom has all of them. :-)

I just found them this year and am pushing them on everyone I can! My favorite series ever.

My mom and I are the same way. Someone told her about them and she was....HMM..Well... I'll try them.....sometime.. and then she got Outlander. Poof, it was magic. She bought the entire series that was avalaible and as soon as the other books were released she snaps them up. I love the books but the wait is unbearable between them. I read the first 5, pre-2003.(I started keeping track of my reads and the dates in 2003). Then I read Lord John and the Private Matter in 11-03 and then A Breath of Snow and Ashes in 10-05. I have reread them all multiple times but the wait is KILLER!!!!!!!

Was Malva around when Jamie got bit by the snake? If so, one could assume she saw it while assisting Claire. I just can't remember if she was part of the story then.

No Malva was not around when Jamie got bitten by the snake. Remember it was when Jamie was so sick, Roger agreed to let Tom Christie come and live on the Ridge, unaware of the animosity between Tom and Jamie from Ardsmuir. Malva didn't really start helping Claire until ABOSAA.

I think Alan probably told Malva, he may have heard from his father or someone else, one of Jamie's men from Ardsmuir who would know about the mark.

This has been driving me crazy because I know there is an explanation given in the text, but I have not been able to find my copy of the book since we moved. Once I do, I am going to dig it out and find the answer!

I vaguely remember a part when Jamie was working outside...swimming or fishing, maybe, or when he helped Bree dig for her kiln...that Malva happened to be passing by and saw the scar. I could be wrong.

I just finished ABOSAA and I dont' remember an explanation given anywhere. I had the same question on a facebook fansite and the answer I recieve seem believable. Jamie was always wearing a kilt and it could be very possible that Malva caught a glimps of it.

It was a scar from an old spider bite. I think the explanation was (though I don't know where I read this) that the men were often out working and then jumping in the stream to cool off and like ktleyed said, Alan or Tom may have seen it and mentioned it to her.

It has been a good while since I have read the series and I was wondering if some one could please tell me in what book there was a monkey? Jaime was helping someone and that person had a pet monkey?

In Dragonfly in Amber, Jaime is spying on Bonnie Prince Charlie and Charlie's love interest, Louise, has a monkey. Perhaps this is the book of which you are thinking.
