I don't get it. Why is this book banned? I read the entire series at like 10 or 11 years old. AND my uber-christian mother did not object. I'm sure if she had known about this, I wouldn't have been allowed to read them, but I don't remember anything being objectionable, and even I was uber-christian, then.

Does it discuss puberty issues, like menstruation perhaps? That got Judy Blume in a lot of trouble.

From Wikipedia: The Anastasia Krupnik series is 29th on the American Library Association's "The 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990–2000", for reasons such as references to beer, Playboy Magazine, and a casual reference to a character wanting to kill herself.

The series was also criticized because one novel of the series featured Anastasia replying to a personal ad and lying about her age and her life to an older man; however, the two never have any romantic experiences and when they meet, the man has no idea Anastasia is the woman he had been writing to.

I could see it being challenged if all those references are in the same paragraph of the book, like this:

"Hey, Alice, could you pass me that Playboy magazine? I'm trying to respond to an older man's personal ad and I need to find out what men are interested in."
"Sure, Anastasia. Do you want another beer?"
"Yes, please! I'll just kill myself if he doesn't respond!"

#3 - Weener,

I've never heard of the seres until now, but your imaginary paragraph makes me want to read it. Good job!

Anistasia books were some of the books that helped me get through puberty with my sanity intact. So of COURSE people want to ban it. Girls aren't suppose to know that other people are just as insecure, smart, or curious as they are. Next thing you know, these girls will all want to go to college-or have a bust of Sigmund Frued in their rooms.
