I have a bad feeling about this:

Oh dear. I rather doubt they will apply the level of detail that Jackson and crew did.
I read today that in the death scene of Boromir, the music in the background is sing in Elvish, the words are those spoken by Faramir in the books, ""I do not love the sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory: I only love what they defend."
A detail I never knew was there, but love that it is.

>2 MrsLee: Oh, that is wonderful. I didn't know that either.
And yes. I fear these new films might be even worse than the 2nd and 3rd Hobbit films. I hope they surprise us. I will not get my hopes up.

Ugh. No, just no. There are plenty of works deserving of a movie franchise. Hollywood needs to take some risks instead of remaking everything to death.
>2 MrsLee: That's really interesting. I wonder what other hidden gems they put in the trilogy.

The last three paragraphs don’t inspire confidence, do they? Particularly taken together with the PR-babble i the rest of the quotations.

The best part, of course, is that one doesn't have to spend money to watch these. How much do you think they'd have to lose before being dissuaded?

>7 hfglen: I think they will make plenty of money. There is a whole generation devoured only to the movies, not Tolkien himself; who have never read the books, and can't get enough.
>4 Narilka: I agree. I have wished for years that they would move on from the Marvel remakes and explore other worlds.

I have no strong feelings one way or the other. Maybe just weariness? Jackson made Frodo an incompetent whiner, compromised Faramir, turned Gimli into the butt end of any lull that needed a joke (he’s short, guys! it’s funny!), and used action as a crutch instead of leaning into the adventurous aspects of the story. I felt more for the loss in Fellowship than I did for the losses in Return of the King, and the decline of heart seemed to continue in the Hobbit movies.
Disclaimer: I loved the slow pacing at the beginning of An Unexpected Journey; it felt like the novel, to me. I thought the second movie was a complete disappointment, so I never saw the third.
With all the video essays on Hollywood exposés, and media mergers prioritizing corporate monopolies over creativity, I can’t get excited about much that they have to offer.
Further disclaimer…my inner 12-year-old lost her ever-loving scat over every Sonic movie trailer, so YMMV. ^_^
