Help find book: Egyptian mystery, two young girlfriends go to Egypt with one of the girls parents , a mysterious man gives them a black cat statue with jewel eyes. They are chased by thieves trying to steal the statue. I read it in the early 1970’s. The cover is very dark with a black cat with jewel eyes. For young adult age 12-15.

A mysterious man gives them a black cat statue with jewel eyes. They are chased by thieves trying to steal the statue. I read it in the early 1970’s. Maybe one of Phyllis Whitney's juvenile books?

Sounds a little like Catherine Woolley's Ginnie and the Mystery Cat. Ginnie's parents take her and her best friend Geneva on a trip to Europe. Ginnie finds a small black cat figure in her bag that looks like her own pet. She thinks it was a surprise from her cousin and treats it like a lucky charm. A thief used her bag to smuggle it but can't seem to get close enough to retrieve it. First published in 1969. Believe the cat was Egyptian and stolen from a museum.

>4 MajorKira: Thank you the suggestion, it does sound like the book I read decades ago. I found and ordered an old copy, this means so much to me I loved the book when I read it in the 1970's and have been trying to find it for years.

Thank you! Ginger

You are very welcome. The other Ginnie books are pretty good too.

help find a book: I read during lockdown not sure whether its a real published book or a book online but it was about a girl with a diary during a zombie apocalypse and she called this diary barbie and I remember she was at school and the zombies broke in and she ended up running to the school field and climbing up a tree to get away from them.i think she found a bike and rode it around a motorway-type thing and ended up finding a place to hide like a camp. and also somewhere in there she was in the school canteen and either her or the diner lady stabbed a zombie. that's all I remember tbh

>7 MajorKira: Hello,

The book Ginnie and the mystery cat arrived and it was the book I read in the 1970's! I am thrilled and so grateful for your help.

I'm glad to have helped. And that you enjoyed it. Try the other Ginnie books too. Some were done by Scholastic and are easier to find, and a little cheaper.📚 📚

>11 MajorKira: As a point of information, although perhaps not as inexpensive as vintage Scholastic editions, there is a recently reprinted uniform set of the Ginnie series, done by Image Cascade Publishing. I don't have that particular set, but I have some other sets by the publisher, and find them solid trade paperbacks. You can find the Ginnie books here:

>12 AbigailAdams26: Thank you for sharing that link to Image Cascade Publishing. They have the Beany Malone series as well and I am so excited!

>13 saskia17: Nice! I have the complete Beany Malone set (save the cookbook) from them, as well as the Joan Foster series, the Sue Barton series, and the Tobey and Midge Heydon series. When I get through those, I'm actually thinking of investing in the Ginnie series! :)
