I finished The Locked Room by Elly Griffiths, the brand-new entry in her Ruth Galloway series. It lived up to expectations.

Just starting Lemons Never Lie by Donald E. Westlake writing as Richard Stark. This is a Hard Case Crime edition and it’s the fourth in the Alan Grofield series. Just a mention of Parker in the first part. By the way, who’s your favorite Parker, Lee Marvin or Jason Statham?

3> I don't think I've seen any of the Jason Statham "Parker" movies, but Lee Marvin was definitely born to play Parker. I've been gradually reading through the series and happily picturing Parker as Lee Marvin throughout.

Next up, Dirty Story by Eric Ambler. This, a continuation of the adventures of Arthur Abdel Simpson from the earlier The Light of Day, aka “Topkapi.”

I raced through The Locked Room by Elly Griffiths. It's the latest in her Ruth Galloway series. Very satisfying.

>10 rosalita: I have just discovered this terrific series. I have visited the North Norfolk area several times which gives the books extra interest. Currently I am reading The Janus Stone

>11 Maura49: I think the series holds up quite well right through to this most recent book. You have a real treat ahead of you!

Apparently this is the month to catch up on series for me. I'm now reading the latest Rivers of London book by Ben Aaronovitch, Amongst Our Weapons.

Because I apparently need to read lots of thrillers at the same time, I've picked up The Apollo Murders, by Chris Hadfield.

I may be the last mystery reader to pick up The Cuckoo’s Calling.

I'm in Jazz Age Harlem, reading about Harlem Sunset by Nekesa Afia. It's her second novel, featuring Louise Lloyd as the amateur/civilian investigator trying to solve a murder.

I've finished two more mysteries this month. The first was a re-read of The Red Box by Rex Stout. The second was #9 in the middle-school The Three Investigators series, The Mystery of the Screaming Clock. Good fun and quick reads, both of them.

as the arrangement feels a bit close to home atm I've started a second read a some days ago to be able to alternate between topics:

Finished The Man Burned by Winter by Pete Zacharias. The execution was flawed, but the concept was interesting. It needed a tad tighter editing, but I liked what the book could have been. Next up is Kismet by Amina Akhtar.

Just starting Midnight Fugue by Reginald Hill, #24 in the Dalziel & Pascoe series. Not reading in series order, but the author’s unique writing style seems fresh with each book.

Just picked up The Third Rumpole Omnibus by John Mortimer ... I've read just enough of the stories over the years to whet my appetite and ask to be referred to at home as She Who Must Be Obeyed.

I read The Appeal by Janice Hallett, which was quite unexpected and delightful.

Recently finished the last good kiss by James Crumley. As someone who has read a considerable amount of hard boiled detective fiction, I am thrilled (and a touch embarrassed) to have just discovered Crumley. Sughrue is an excellent detective character and the story hooked me early on. Crumley evidently has written novels with another lead character as well and I can hardly wait to add all of these titles to my library.

Started L'Assassin by Peter Steiner. An ex-spy living in France with powerful enemies in the U.S. government. Great fun thus far (Ch VII)

The last mystery I read in July was The Thursday Murder Club which I enjoyed for what it is — a cozy mystery that has a rat-a-tat-tat comedic patter going. I'll continue with the series.

Finished just before the clock rolled over to the new month: Kismet by Amina Akhtar. This was a well crafted book and I was surprised by the ending until I stopped to think about it.
