Can anyone recommend books similar to James Michener’s sweeping historical novels?
I’m familiar with Edward Rutherford’s books. A few other novels I include in this genre:
Miami by Evelyn Wilde Mayerson
Vancouver by David Cruise and Alison Griffiths
Great Lakes by Lilly Kirckof and Daniel Allen Butler
Destiny in Sydney and Gift of Sydney by D. Manning Richards
Any suggestions?

Michener was never entirely my taste, so this might not be quite what you are after, but possibly The Far Pavilions by M M Kaye?

At least geographically, the Hornblower series has a grand sweep.

Leon Uris perhaps? Same generation writer as Michener, big epic novels that he researched a lot for. His Irish history one was v much an American-Irish perspective but he might be worth a go. Herman Wouk also had that grand scale thing going on.
