OT - The Wind in the Willows - illustrated by Chris Dunn, Kickstarter

I know that we have people here who enjoy The Wind in the Willows and / or illustrated editions, so I thought I'd share a Kickstarter here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/caurettepublishing/the-wind-in-the-willows-...

As the title says, it's illustrated by Chris Dunn and funded via Kickstarter. It's by a French publisher, I think. The book itself is 40 Euros, but there are different options. The ones with an original drawing or painting are already sold out, though.

Anyone have the French version who can comment on the paper/binding quality?

I really like the illustrations - very classical/traditional and apropos to the story. Although I am a fan of Vladimir Zimakov, I think his style is not suited to WitW (referring the to the Wild Parrot Press edition). I think the illustrations in this editions are far richer than either that edition or the Hand & Eye edition.

Thanks! I've never read Wind in the Willows so there's no nostalgia factor for me, but I might pick this up for the illustrations alone.

Those illustrations do look superb.

Brilliantly illustrated, worth the price of admission on their own.

>3 ultrarightist: Different strokes - I think the art in the Mad Parrot edition is fantastic (considered buying solely for the art) while the art in this one is nice but unremarkable.

Thanks for sharing. I have subscribed as loved the illustrations.

Does anyone know if the illustrations in the Folio Society and/or Caurette version (kickstarter Chris Dunn) of the book are on glossy paper or matte? I have the Harry Potter illustrated books and although the art looks great, the text can be hard to read on the glossy paper at certain angles.

Hmmm...French edition or English....Hmmm...Wonder if there are quality and material differences?

Thank you! I've been looking for an illustrated edition of TWITW that fits both my budget and my aesthetics for a while, this one does an admirable job of both. Cheers!

Excellent share, I was also enabled. Not having a copy of TWIW and comparing to other editions solely on the amount of illustrations (for the kiddos), this one wins out (over FS and others), plus the size is great for children.

For what it’s worth I asked on KS if the binding was sewn and the response was yes.

>15 simbae: I asked on KS

Feeling more than usually clueless I fell back on Google to solve the mystery of KS.

"Kill Steal" is the most common definition for KS on Snapchat, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

Hmm, doesn't quite seem to fit the context.

The Urban Dictionary offers as an alternative "Abbreviated form of Kinda-sorta. Quick way to say yes to something but at the same time no."

Nope, that doesn't work either. I'm hoping you know what you meant by it and if I'll be ashamed for revealing my ignorance.

Thank you, that makes sense now. I'm pleased to report I know what Kickstarter is. Feeling a tad less decrepit.

Je penche pour l'édition française...Peut-être que je peux travailler ma compréhension puisque je connais si bien l'histoire.

Where was Google translate in High School French class? Maybe I could have up that C to a C+! ;)

For what it’s worth, kill stealing is a pretty horrible thing to do. It involves someone sneaking in at the last second to deliver the killing blow in a video game so the kill will be attributed to them. Not only does it rob the reward from the person who may have been wearing the enemy down all along, but it means the KS’er would have likely been staying away from helping their teammates in the fight just so they could deliver the final killing blow.

>21 Hrodberht: I loved the very stylised illustrations used on Mad Parrot’s edition, but i loved & backed this one also with its more traditional ‘cosy soft-focus’ illustrations that fit the subject well. I also bought the Hand and Eye edition , so i’m drowning in ‘Wind in the Willows’ editions at the moment !

My first backed Kickstarter ever, excited to have this one for my kids to cherish as they grow.

Being an American, I (whispers) never read TWITW so I’m excited.

So, if some of you bought this WITW illustrated by Chris Dunn, are they cataloged here on LT? Not finding it.

I ask because I’m curious about his new project. He’ll be illustrating the Redwall books.

I notice him on Instagram

I have the French version, Le vent dans les saules, and it is very nice. I love his illustrations and couldn't pass up another edition of WITW.

I expect he'll nail the Redwall illustrations.

The email saying they were shipping arrived this morning! Those who update will probably do so in the next few days.

My copy arrived today, will peel off the shrinkwrap tonight. Came with a folder of extras as well. The packaging did its job, one corner of the box was severely dented but the book is fine.

It's a very attractive book from my first flip through it. The full-page illustrations are excellent, and there are plenty of spot illustrations throughout as well. I would put it in the same class as Omar Rayyan's take on Goblin Market, and indeed next to it on the shelf.

I’ve separated the author page, as he doesn’t take credit for the art & design textbooks. Found another book he illustrated and bought a copy.

Mine has not arrived yet. Also, no shipping status is given on Kickstarter. I am getting a little anxious ...

I’m so glad you said that - mine hasn’t arrived and yet and i’m genuinely nervous. Partly because i ordered an extra copy for a Christmas present, but mostly because i’m looking forward to it so much!

Heartening to know someone received today, and another hasn’t got theirs yet. I will hold off my anxious email to the publishers…

Mine also arrived on Tuesday but my Kickstarter account still shows no shipping info so lack of status update doesn't necessarily mean lack of book. Don't panic yet. Hopefully everyone's copies are on the way.

I bought one of the editions with a painting, which arrived very quickly, but my add-on with a second copy is yet to ship. They can't ship everything at the same time, understandably enough, though I was surprised that these are shipped separately.
