Name that book: Historical Romance, Scotland

Hi,

- Read in late 1980's/ early 1990s.
- Historical Romance, in Scotland
- H Alex (Scottish Laird) is forced to marry h Gemma (English lady, dark hair, very beautiful)... they hate each other at first, but fall in love eventually
- H's mom (a Countess?) hates h and tries to kidnap her/ kill her
- H has a sister named Maggie or Meg, SHE ends up dying due to the mom's plot...

I read this a million times in middle school/ high school and I can't remember the title!!!! Any help would be appreciated!
