Lucy Mangan, the Guardian's TV critic, shares her shelves and colour scheme.

Back in 2008-2009 Mangan had a column "A book lover's guide to building a brilliant children's library", my first port-of-call while it ran, which over 50-something weeks covered the classics and many under-appreciated gems, like:

No 7 Private - Keep Out! by Gwen Grant (1978)
Private - Keep Out! should rank alongside Just William as an indispensable part of the children's canon. Alas, and for no better reason that I can discern than the vagaries of chance and/or the misalignment of planets on publication, it has so far failed to find its rightful place. So let me state for the record: the public has been deprived of one (or three if you count the sequels, which I would if I had more space) of the funniest children's books ever written. ...

I wonder whether her Bookworm: A Memoir of Childhood Reading (2018) is a re-working of the column?

That white trim around the door seems the only thing that clashes. The door itself looks fine.

Otherwise, it seems perfection to me.

I’ve been having the same bit of fun moving my own library and having custom shelves built.

I will have to seek out Gwen Grant now.

Oh lord ... so envious of that library. I really liked the article too—I've not read The Guardian in years and wasn't familiar with her writing. I was a little taken aback by

Then I want to paint them green, because that is the proper library colour ...

but why not, after all?
