I remember reading a really good children's fantasy series when I was in elementary school, around 10-13 years ago now. It was a Trilogy, if I remember correctly, and was actually the reason why I stopped hating reading and fell in love with it.

I keep getting close to finding it but never can find exactly the one I'm looking for.

I remember there being a runaway princess, who snuck out of her room and stole one of the white dragons from the stables. They mentioned the stable keep quite a lot, maybe a potential love interest? But she went into the village and saw that one of her maids was using an invisibility cloak to hide. Later down the series, the princess comes across another smaller dragon I think, one that's small enough to sit on her shoulder. She also finds an imprisonment camp of female orc slaves and frees them. I think in the third book, she has to face this weird room of hallucinations, where she finds her deceased mother at a dinner table asking her to sit down and eat with her. She knows it's a trap, though, and exits the room, eventually returning home to be crowned Queen.

I can't remember if she was running away to find answers about her mother, to escape the duties of the throne, or to escape an arranged marriage, but she went on a huge adventure and I'd love to reread it now that I've grown up myself.

Closest I've gotten to finding a similar cover is The White Dragon, The Girl Who Heard Dragons, and Dragonsdawn by Anne McCaffrey. The Art Nouveau style is very similar to the images in my memory but the Dragons of Pern series doesn't really seem to align up with what little I remember based on the book captions alone. Which, it has been 10-13 years, so I could easily be mixing up visuals with another book series entirely.

If someone could help me find it I'd greatly appreciate it! I owe it some love. It's the reason I started actually enjoying reading, after all.

Could it be A Wizard Named Nell? My daughter read this one recently. I know there's a white dragon and a smaller dragonlike pet, but not sure about the plot.
