Time flies when your 12 weeks in to a 2 week lockdown, and it’s already time to nominate your books for our October and November reads. Please nominate up to two books and second as many nominated books as you like. As usual I’ll run a poll in around a week.

I would like to nominate Suite Française by Irène Némirovsky and Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates.

I nominate The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and Aaron's Rod by D.H. Lawrence.
If anybody has something to nominate that's upbeat, I will vote for it!

>3 annamorphic: Upbeat, ha!

I want to read Memento Mori and The Trusting and the Maimed. I second Blonde.

>6 Lynsey2: This month's read has me laughing a lot! And that's been very useful this month. Looking for more of the same....

Another second ( is that a third?) for Memento Mori

We have two books nominated and seconded so we can make those our group reads for October and November - Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates, and Memento Mori by Muriel Spark.

I’ll set up threads for these at the start of the month.

Excellent! I have Memento Mori from the library, so will be able to join this one. First in quite some time!

>7 annamorphic: Good to know Annamorphic! I will make sure to read it. Laughter seems hard to come by recently so any book that gets a chuckle out of me is worth it.

I have read and loved Memento Mori so I hope everyone enjoys. I will add Blonde to my November reading.

Which book is for which month? I've read Memento Mori but will join in for Blonde.

I was planning Blonde for October and Memento Mori for November, but happy to switch if anyone has a preference (limited book availability etc). Please let me know on this thread.

I am pretty well booked up for October so I would prefer Blonde as the November choice, but if that doesn't work for everyone, I will just follow the thread and read the book later.

And I'd prefer Memento Mori for October as I am hoping to read it this month. :)

I have ordered Blonde but I had to order from the US and it will not be here until mid-October. So I would also appreciate if it was the November read, if that suits everyone else.

It doesn't matter to me which order we read them in.
