Not for anything that expensive, but I've bought 2nd-hand paperbacks, t-shirts and posters from various sellers on there, and that's all been fine.

I bought two books, Vita Nuova and The Screwtape Letters, from that exact Etsy seller last year. The transaction went very well and the books arrived in perfect condition.
I'm not sure I'd want to pay that amount for The Vampyre but if you want to buy it for your friend I have nothing bad to say about the seller.

Isn’t that the same Etsy seller you considered buying from earlier? I feel like this seller has been linked many times over the past few months. I remember because of the free shipping in Canada. I would say go for it and pay with PayPal, that way you have buyer protection.

I buy off of Etsy all of the time without any issues. It’s actually my favorite place to shop. This seller seems very reliable.

Haven't used them lately, but one peculiarity of Etsy used to be that postage was automatically added to each item in an order, resulting in a huge postal charge for a large order. Some vendors refunded the overcharge without being asked. Most of the Etsy booksellers can also be found on Abebooks, if you prefer their way of doing business.

A question. Enlighten me. Why was >8 PartTimeBookAddict: demolished with flags ?

14PartTimeBookAddict
Ago 6, 2021, 12:50 am

>13 Pellias: I have no idea.

I thought I was just pointing out an obvious fact. I meant no rancor or disrespect. I just didn't understand why the same poster was posting the same question again on a new forum.

I hope I haven't broken any terms of the site and if I have I apologize.

>14 PartTimeBookAddict: I thought as much. It must be some site terms. I mean, no one can possibly be offended by that. They could and do, very easily in our fragile world, but should not. Can't go around apologizing all the time either. You will end up saying sorry to people before saying hello.

Anyway. Apologize for going of topic. Bows head in shame.

A totally exorbitant price for a standard edition. It may be scarce now, but that does not mean it will be in the future. Patience will reward anyone willing to wait.

>13 Pellias: I also cannot understand why post >8 PartTimeBookAddict: was flagged. It was simply pointing out an obvious truth.

Yes, it's a well designed but otherwise unremarkable book, offered at something over five times the published price of £28.95 / $44.95. Avoid for now unless in thrall to a singular and unvanquishable craving.

I see the user Bob_Reader has been removed as spam, and Bob__Reader has joined our ranks in his place. Way to go to get "Could try harder" in your end-of-term report. Nothing wrong with post 8 above except that it dares to mention the naked emperor's lack of a costume, I don't know how all those flags were mustered against it, a nest of sock-puppet accounts seems most likely, but all good persons and true can each take one away by clicking on More, then Flag, then selecting Counter-flag from the options. I've done my bit, but in accordance with the terms and conditions I've only a single account to my name.

There is nothing wrong with your post and I cannot understand the multiple flags unless someone has created numerous accounts in order to attack your post.

>18 terebinth: I remember the original post so I see no reason why >8 PartTimeBookAddict: was flagged. I did not see any malice in the post and the high amount of flags which it received does seems strange. Thanks for the information on the counter-flag, I didn't realize there was such a function. This seems like a good example for it's use.

I had my doubts about our friend Bob from the beginning of his first appearance. His general tone should be easy to pick up in his next incarnation.

I think many people were uneasy but it was difficult to categorise him. Was he a cunning troll or just a pathetic, sad old guy? I never quite made my mind up until this last piece of nonsense. I have a feeling we've not seen the last of him, though.

>23 folio_books: I kind offet sorry for him, because he really did just seem like a picky older guy with a desire to buy every book he heard of. And some of his posts about receiving books from EP several months late in Canada rang true. Either way, this last was too much and made me wonder if he had some affiliation to the seller.

As someone who was a lurker on this forum during the Emily_Jones51 episode, it's seemed pretty clear to me from the outset that Bob is the same person. The same repetitive, faux-naive questioning style, the same focus on the Rainbow Fairy books, Shirley Jackson and gothic/macabre works, and the same frequent umbrage at Folio for not reprinting or publishing those titles. If it's not the same person, then they were doing a pretty good imitation.

Me too, but only because this ended too quickly and not quite as gloriously as I had hoped :)

>26 agitationalporcelain: Indeed, the shadow of Emily Jones persists after almost 2 years. In order to lift this shadow, I believe her memory ought to be enshrined on the FSD wiki group for posterity.

I’m afraid I don’t understand any of the flags/removals. He was a constructive member of the EP forum, asking good questions and contributing worthwhile opinions. I remember Emily Jones being mean-spirited; I flagged her once or twice for insulting someone.

I hope I'm generally reluctant to think ill of anyone, and perhaps I sometimes take that to the point of folly - "Emily" certainly retained my trust for quite a while - but once the barrage of flags, about ten of them as I recall, appeared on the innocuous post 8 above, there didn't seem any explanation other than someone's use of multiple accounts. Hard to do much of that (I gather or surmise, I promise I haven't tried) without the tale of their IP address(es?) giving the game away to anyone with access to it, which I'm guessing accounts for the removal from our midst of "alisa16" (post 10) as well.

Bob was always negative here. Never constructive, just negative. Used this place to vent/troll essentially. Lots of double posts on topics already discussed. Calling this second hand find "glorious" was probably the most positive (and suspicious) thing he has done. I do feel bad for Bob though, it's a tough time for many people and I think the internet can be a place (albeit as inappropriate as anywhere else) for people to release frustration. I wish him well.
