Finding help to prepare an ebook?

I have 4-6 ebooks in Word that seem fairly close to be ready to release on the web, except for general formatting and edit. Can you please advise how to find someone to help, and what terms seem reasonable, or do you think it's best to let one fly and learn from your mistakes?
Does LT have standards or recommendations or an inclination to review books offered here free?

LT doesn't have any particular format requirements for Member Giveaway books, but it's a good idea to use something easily accessible. And when you do offer the book on MG, please be sure to indicate the format you are using, so that members can decide if it's one with which they are comfortable. Also "If you are going to require an extra registration process or password to log in for winners to retrieve their copies, please also note this in the description of the giveaway."

>1 eschator83: Well, that depends on where you are offering the book for sale/to be given away. If you go through an agent and traditional publishing, all those services are in house and part of your contract.

If you are self publishing, most sites will have guidelines on how to format and submit the manuscript. Editing is a whole different beast. That would be dependent on what type of editing you're looking for. Line Edits? Copy editor type edits? content edit? My suggestion is to find about 5 Beta readers to start, let them give you the basics on what the books need. Edit from there, then move to a professional editor. Each editor has different ways they charge. Some are by the page, some are by the hour. But they are professional. So they WON'T be cheap. A good professional editor can run you as much as US$250/hour or US$55/page of manuscript. You can find others that charge less, but make sure you check all of them for experience and editing credits.

I am very grateful for comments. I think perhaps I should look for a local writers group, or perhaps a publishing seminar. Please pray for me.
