Calling World of Darkness players

Especially if you've been playing in the original setting as well as the new setting.

The World of Darkness series needs a drastic tidy-up and pruning - 795 entries, most of which are classified as Core. By the look of it, it looks some somebody made a start and gave up in despair. My suggestion would be to split out each property into their own series, and split each into original World of Darkness and new World of Darkness.

I have enough to be getting on with, plus I only own a few oWoD titles so have no desire to take this on. I am also guessing there are a substantial number of works that need combining, especially translations (but check it's actually a translation not an adaptation) - I certainly found a lot when I did Call of Cthulhu.

You might want to post this in the Series group: https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/3717/Librarything-Series

>2 lilithcat: My thought was that it would be better here because the tidy-up really needs somebody who knows the material (original vs new vs 20th anniversary editions). I doubt many of the potential helpers in the Series group would be familiar with the World of Darkness.

I have a few of the original titles, but my group didn't get heavily into the game because one of the players had moral objections to it.

I'll cross post there as well.

>3 Maddz:

I think you are more likely to find people familiar with the series in the Series group than in one that is a "general catch-all".

There is this group, dormant since 2014, but there are 142 members who might see a post there and have knowledge and interest.

>1 Maddz: As the one who started then ran away in pain and fear, that entire series is a mess.

Someone wanted to create a complete listing of White Wolf's World of Darkness books, regardless of which grouping they belonged to. I started trying to organize, but realized quickly that I didn't have a lot of time to devote to it.

I'll go in and take a look again.

Thing is, each property does have it's own series, which are already linked (I think at last check, but might have changed) and then this was the conglomerate mess of combining everything.

>6 gilroy: Well volunteered!

To be honest, if it were me, I'd split it into 3 series - original WoD, new WoD, and the Anniversary editions with links to each series and each property series. From what I can see (having just logged my CtD 20th titles which I picked up from Humble Bundle), the 20th is a new version of the original editions, but updated (expanded?). RPGGeek has them as separate entries within the original WoD series.

Okay, right off the start, here are a few of my problems:

1) this contains books related to the collectable card games (Rage and Vampire the Eternal Struggle/Jyhad) -- I really want those out of the group as they aren't really connected directly with the RPG. Suspect i'll be arguing that though.

2) The original creators (who did this in the old system) did label things as which group they belong to, but the novels are mixed into the RPG and I'm trying to decide how I should pull those out.

3) The end times from the oWoD was called the Time of Judgement, but each subgroup had their own name for the time of judgement (Apocalypse, Year of Reckoning, Year of Revelations, etc). I really think these books should fall into one group in the series but I suspect others would disagree.

4) There are going to be a LOT of subgroups in this series, even if it's broken into three different series. Because each WoD has a lot of subgroups.

And that's just as I start working before I really get deep into the weeds of fixing it.
As I suspected, there's a lot of smaller series that can be added as relationships but aren't there yet. And these will need to be looked over as they are the same mess as the larger series that I'm poking into

>8 gilroy: When I was working on Call of Cthulhu RPG, we chucked out a lot of non-core material: this included all the fiction and 3rd party scenarios (unless they were included in the individual settings). All the scenarios got included in a new series split by publisher. The different settings got their own series (as 3rd party published material was included there, it's feasible to take that out).

The series was split into Core, Sourcebooks, Scenarios (Chaosium - mostly), Settings and then the major settings like Dreamlands etc. I also came across various related games etc and then there's the periodicals - pro and fan.

Translations were a bit tricky - the (current) German and Swedish books got their own series as they were adaptations rather than translations. The German series included the original German translations (which were translations - and really ought to have been combined). Other translations were combined with the original English editions (when they were logged in the first place).

I started by including everything trying to keep everything grouped sensibly, then started taking thing out when the series got unwieldy (around the 500 item mark). By then, it was obvious what was non-core. I also cross-referenced with the RPGGeek lists and Yog-Sothoth.com. It took me the best part of a month - which is why I don't want to take on WoD. I'll have enough to do when I get to RuneQuest.

Okay, I have to get other stuff done today, so can't focus more on this until later, but I've made some headway.
It looks like a mess, and will for a while as I work through all the crap.
