Happy Canada Day and Happy 4th of July! What 1001 books are you reading at the start of the third quarter?

I've started Cane and The Return of Philip Latinowicz, both slow going, but for different reasons.

I'm reading The Real Charlotte which was supposed to be my monthly challenge book several months back. It was a book that somebody else had read recently and their review sounded interesting -- and indeed, I am enjoying the book a lot, so thanks!

I've just finished The Summer Book by Tove Jansson and found this to be a delightful read. Next up for me will be The Spy Who Came In From the Cold by John Le Carre.

I’m still reading The Glimpses of the Moon which is a delightful read for such a romantic as me.

Finished Strait Is the Gate, next up is The Plague. Didn't intend to continue the French theme, but...

Finished Mr Loverman. Unusual book.
Now starting The Five, which is set about 5 miles and over a century apart.

>8 Helenliz: While I suspect Bernardine Evaristo would be a good addition to a future edition, I think you might have meant to post this reading update in another group. ;)

I'm about halfway through The Plague and boy am I glad I didn't start this one earlier in the pandemic. Hits a little close to home!

I am forcing myself to keep reading Love in the Time of Cholera but I am so sick of reading about his sexual conquests. It is all a bit creepy and obsessive - plus who keeps a notebook listing all their encounters! Uggh!

I have just started The Spy Who Came in From the Cold in which the opening sequence brought back memories of the Berlin Wall and the Cold War.

I'm planning to read Ferrante's The Story of the Lost Child but as it's the last in series of 4 books, I started from the beginning. Now on the second book. It's a good read, gripping storytelling.

I recently finished Cane and Vipers' Tangle and am slowly working through Bartleby & Co.

I finally finished The Magic Mountain, and realized it took me a month and a half. It's long, but really shouldn't have taken THAT long! I finally started skimming some of the debates between Settembrini and Naphta- prevented a couple of naps that way.

Finished The Plague and realized I'm at 1001-related loose ends. I'll figure something else out and report back.

I'm reading Ancestral Voices by Etienne van Heerden. It's a very tough book in many ways, but also really good, different. I can't exactly use the term "enjoying" but I feel challenged and interested.
