Hello there, I just registered to become a Librarything author, and once I was accepted my work history had a few books that are not mine. Is there anyway I can “disown” these books, because I did not write them and really want the original writer to get credit for their hard work.

Thanks,

Charles K. Jordan

>1 CharlesJordan5: I've fixed that now for you. The page where you do these divisions is https://www.librarything.com/author_split.php?author=jordancharles&page=assi...

It happens a lot. Some author pages need to be split into dozens of actually different authors. And sometimes in surprising ways, because the system doesn't pick up on the difference between, say, Michael A. and Michaela. But we can split them since a couple of years.

I also created a series Five Kingdoms of Cordizal for your book. Good luck on the next one

>2 anglemark: thank you, I was having a problem wrapping my head around it and didn’t want to break anything for the other Jordans.

>3 Nicole_VanK: makes sense! I was just surprised to have a cookbook lol.

By the way, thank you for realizing that the other books are real and have a real author who deserves credit - too many authors have come here demanding that the "wrong" books be deleted from the system entirely!

OK, so here is the problem. If you go to CharlesJordan5, the person, by clicking on a post link, you see that he is also an author and has written a book. However if you click on the book, you go to the Charles Jordan page, which shows 3 authors with that name but does not show the book. If you go to Charles K. Jordan. THEN you see the book. So there are 2 work pages for that book: one under Charles Jordan and one under Charles K. Jordan. The second one works. I would suggest to >7 CharlesJordan5:, that he make sure he lists his book with his middle initial. That will avoid confusion.

Yes that's well spotted krazy4katz.

Charles, if you go to:
https://www.librarything.com/catalog/CharlesJordan5/yourlibrary
and edit the author of your book to include your middle initial, this will avoid the confusion krazy4katz talks about.

I have noticed the LT Author badge isn't showing up either (because it's at /jordancharles-3 when now it wants to be attached to /jordancharlesk), I believe that needs an admin to move it - I'll send an email to request that be done.

Edit: name typo.

It was working fine earlier, but someone went into the work page and changed the main author from "Charles Jordan" to "Charles K. Jordan" even though no one has entered the book that way. Not sure if >1 CharlesJordan5: did that because that is what they would prefer or if someone else did it because the cover of the book says "Charles K. Jordan" on it

I changed it to Charles K. Jordan, and now seems to be fixed? Thanks so much!

>8 lorax: wow, that would be an odd way of looking at it. lol But yeah the idea of a plantation cookbook did make me a bit uncomfortable.

>1 CharlesJordan5: and >4 bergs47: and >10 Nevov:. One more problem I don't know how to fix on the Charles Jordan page that has 3 authors: the Plantation Cookbook is now listed as part of the series, Five Kingdoms of Cordizal, but only here: https://www.librarything.com/author/jordancharles-3

Everywhere else it seems to be OK.

>14 krazy4katz: Recreating the series works - I tried to just force it recalculate the author with the "Allow to calculate" but it was not happy with it. So deleting the old series and creating a new one did the trick. Not the cleanest way but it worked :)

>12 CharlesJordan5:

You may want to talk to Amazon about your kindle book there. https://www.amazon.com/Scourge-Five-Kingdoms-Cordizal-Book-ebook/dp/B093LD2738/ has the author name without K. So if two people add your book from Amazon, the winning name will be without K. again and we will need to reassign again and alias eventually. :)

If they cannot/would not fix it, keep an eye on your page and when that happens, split yourself as Charles Jordan-4 (or whatever is free when that happens) and alias into your K. account. Or come over to the combiner's group https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/460/Combiners%21 an someone will assist :)

>16 AnnieMod: In fact, on the work page, there is no active Amazon link. Do you think the author name is the problem?

18AnnieMod
Jun 29, 2021, 12:31 am

>17 krazy4katz: Nope - it is the lack of ISBN. There is no active link because there is no ISBN to tie it with it. See https://www.librarything.com/work/15779515 for the same thing - no ISBN, not direct Amazon link (despite it having an ASIN).

If you look at https://www.librarything.com/work/19777720 for example, click on Amazon - all the links are based on existing ISBNs (and the most popular one wins the Direct link).

But the book is in Amazon (thus me posting the direct link to it) and if someone adds from there, the author will come without the K because this is how the author name is coded in Amazon... despite its appearance on the cover. That's what happened when >1 CharlesJordan5: added it and before fixing the author name :)

I probably inadvertently created some of the mess when I set the canonical name of jordancharles-3 to Jordan, Charles K.

Okay, that was a bit of a mess - I actually had changed the author name for the work when CharlesJordan5 requested to claim the (divided Charles Jordan) author page, because the actual work shows Charles K. Jordan, and it was cleaner than assigning to a divided author page. So, my bad there.

The trouble is that the badge didn't get reassigned to his appropriate author page. Even though I updated the author page where his profile was linking to, the edit wasn't sticking completely. Completely removing the author page claim from CharlesJordan5's profile, and then reclaiming the author page, did the trick.

Hopefully the Amazon data can get fixed so we don't need to reassign and alias. Thanks for your patience, all, let me know if I've missed anything.

Thanks Kristi, and >18 AnnieMod: we should be safe now because if a work becomes attributed to the divided page we can make a new division number and alias that division.

>21 Nevov: Yes - I was just telling the author to keep an eye for it so when it happens, it can be done quickly :)
