Hi all,
Please add to this thread the names of any authors you'd be interested in reading and discussing to finish out 2021.
Reminder: Any author already discussed in the past 2 years is not eligible to be re-upped yet. (You can find the list here: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/Monthly_Author_Reads)
However, you CAN re-nominate an author that was nominated in the last round but didn't make the final cut.
Don't forget to second (or third, or fourth) others people's nominations. The top 3 authors will be our October through December reads.
Kindly get all your nominations and votes in by August 1 so we have ample time to get a hold of books for each month.
Thank you!

How about F. Scott Fitzgerald? His The Great Gatsby went out of copyright this year, and as NPR put it: "In the public domain, Gatsby may now become even more familiar. Two new editions are about to come out and who knows what kind of projects — a Gatsby rom-com? Gatsby joins The Avengers? — might now get a green light..."

Hah, in looking back I see that I nominated Fitzgerald and Orwell for the spring as well with no traction. Oh well.
Side note: Anyone else having technical issues with LT lately? I think it is this site and not my computer but trying to narrow it down.

>5 Tara1Reads: I'll second the first four you listed. I rather disliked Empire Falls, so I'm not interested in more Russo.
Hmm, good to know there's no technical issues with LT on your end. I'll need to troubleshoot some more.

I’ll nominate Evelyn Waugh, who has numerous titles on the 1001 list. I’ve not read him, but he’s been on my TBR for awhile now. And I’ll second Edith Wharton and Edna O’Brien.

What about Angie Thomas? I know her books are marketed for teens but I feel like there is crossover appeal for adults as well.

I'll second Nevil Shute
13john257hopper
and Edith Wharton as a back up

I'll fourth (or fifth?) Evelyn Waugh.

Okay, so right now we have Evelyn Waugh for definite for October.
But then we have a three-way tie between F. Scott Fitzgerald, George Orwell, and Nevil Shute.
I'm going to give it to the end of the week (8/9) for folks to pipe in with any further votes so we can narrow down the November and December 2021 authors. Otherwise I choose at random. :)

Wow, so apparently I voted for Evelyn Waugh twice. Also, I mistakenly said it was a 3-way tie between Fitzgerald, Orwell, and Shute. It was actually a 3-way tie between Edith Wharton, George Orwell, and Neil Shute ... with the new votes, that's still true. So I am just going to make these our authors for the next four months.
October -- Evelyn Waugh
November -- George Orwell
December -- Edith Wharton
January -- Neil Shute
New topics for these to be posted soon.
