YA fiction made in 1990s?

So all i can remember about this book is that this girl lives with her mom for now, and she's black, i think her dad was white and then something happens to where she has to go live with her white grandmother and go from living at a place with two bedrooms to a huge mansion with her grandmother. She ends up going to a predominately white school and not her old school anymore that was kind of low funded. I also do remember that she started liking a white boy at the white school and they end up hanging out, but i think, i'm not sure, he was just using her to make fun of her. I think i also remember that either her sister or brother or could be someone completely different got stabbed by a gang where she used to live.
