Does anyone know this book?

I read an excerpt years ago but never got the name.
If I remember correctly, it's about a man who used to live a violent and drug fueled life and is now a house husband. I think he and his wife were living in a London flat. He was trying to get used to taking care of everything and was getting good at it, except he had a very strong and irrational fear of ironing clothes.
If this sounds familiar to anyone please let me know. (It was not a manga)
