help with combining needed, or something

I can't figure out what's going on here . . .

I just added a new book to my library, based on the ISBN - 9781789545098, which appeared in my account with a cover picture that matched the book, but did not pull in the author's name (Balzano, Marco). I manually added the author. It shows that I am the only person with this book.

But I knew that was wrong. When I go to the author's page, I see there are 92 copies of this. But when I click on combine, I can't find my copy to merge in with the 92.

What am I missing? Thanks!

You can combine them from https://www.librarything.com/work/26385116/editions/198956421 (the editions page of your book).

What source did you use for the addition? If the author was not there or was under some weird role, it would not have been added here as an author. Never mind - looks like "amazon canada books". And if you look at the record, there is no author there - see https://www.amazon.ca/Im-Staying-Here/dp/1789545099

Thanks! Not sure how long it would have taken me to figure that out. I really need to stop using Amazon as my default, but whenever I change it I have a lot of problems finding books

>3 Nickelini: I tend to use Amazon.com/Amazon UK - it is not bad for new books but most of mine are US/UK books and not Canadian. That one looks better on the US side though: https://www.amazon.com/Im-Staying-Here-Marco-Balzano/dp/1789545099

It is the old books that are a pain in Amazon usually. English language books from this century are usually fine. :)

One idea/advice - when you find a book via AddBook, make sure that the author IS there before you decide to add it. If it is not, try Amazon.com for example - it will have most of the Canadian books usually...

That's a good tip. I've tended to park my default and not think about it much. But I've been running into more problems lately, so I will take your suggestion. Thanks for your help

I have the same issue with The Consequences of Fear by Jacqueline Winspear.

I know I'm not the only one with this book, but when I go to Editions, there are no other books to combine with. I haven't managed to get it combined yet. I probably added it from amazon.ca.

>1 Nickelini:, >6 raidergirl3: You can also use the "workbench" feature (bottom of the right sidebar) in cases like this: add your book to the workbench, find and add the work you want it combined with, and click on combine.

(It's of course also always fine ask for help in the Combiners! group if you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself.)

>6 raidergirl3: A new Maisie Dobbs! Why doesn't my library's OverDrive have it yet?

>7 Nicole_VanK: thank you!

>8 spiphany: oh right, Workbench. I haven’t tried that yet; I’ll have to remember next time

>9 MarthaJeanne: yes! I got it quite early after my library got it. I happened on the New Books on the day it was entered.
