I read this book 6-10 years ago I believe.
YA Science Fiction
Basic Plot. Male MC, very intelligent, has a girlfriend and gets a summer internship at a NY university(NYU?) working with a famous doctor/geneticist. Eventually he gets introduced to a girl who he has a good affinity for. She played tennis and is also equally intelligent. They develop feelings. Eventually MC learns that his mom who died of a genetic disease worked with the doctor(maybe former student?). Did experiments to not pass on the disease to the MC. His is cured, but another embryo was given to the scientist to raise. Don't remember the ending.
