This is a typical menu for us, by the way there are two stoves in the kitchen, once one of them was a professional Garland 48" 8 burner. Those cookbooks do get used. My wife does the cooking, I do the charcuterie and the food preserving.

Some nice menu ideas! Am I correct in assuming that the capitals/numbers following an item is the cookbook in which the recipe can be found? I don't plan that far in advance, but here is my menu for the next few days. I only "plan" the pm meal as I eat leftovers for the am meal:

Sun PM Left-over oven baked barbecue chicken, potato salad
Mon PM Chili soup/crackers
Tue PM Taco salad (seasoned ground beef, cheese, onions, tomatoes, crushed tortilla chips, sour cream, guacamole, onions on a bed of lettuce)
Wed PM Chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes

With each pm meal my husband and I "split" a fruit. Usually an orange, apple, or banana; or we have a handful of berries or grapes.

Tess_W you are correct, that is the cookbook, or if it is a food magazine the issue and yes, on some food magazines we have 41 years of back issues.
When Virginia moved in our combined cookbooks measured 6 feet, with only Joy of Cooking and Boston School as duplicate, and even there different editions.

Just wow to the magazines--after about 10 years of issues, I made sure I copied the ones I wanted and got rid of all the magazines. I feel better without the stacks, but I feel that I might me missing something--what that is--I'm unsure!

OtherHalf and I went through our standard list of meals - things to eat every day/weekend without making too much fuss - and came up with about 33 different meals. I do the cooking, for some of them I'd consult a recipe to check what herbs it recommends or proportions, but generally I just remember/improvise. I own a shelf or so of cookbooks, but it's not often I consult them, and they usually manage not to have the recipe I'm looking for.

>3 wwj: If one of them is Gourmet from the '50s and '60s, I'm deeply envious.
