Found: Short mystery girl named needle

Read in anthology. A girl named Needle recognizes someone she knows in a market (?) She was one of a group of childhood friends. It turns out needle is a ghost, she was killed by one member of the group who wanted to marry another member of the group whom she had threatened to expose for polygamy in India. I believe she was smothered in a haystack
