I read this book in 2007/2008 and so it was published in the 2000s, may be from an independent publisher or self-published. I know that the author is an African American woman and the cover has a cartoonish look similar to Up at the College by Michele Andrea Bowen but I know that's not the book I'm looking for because it didn't heavily involve religion. I'm pretty sure it's regular adult fiction (African American) but there may be a small chance that it's YA. It's about a group of African American students in college but there may another small chance that they were in high school. If they were in college, I feel like they went to a school in North Carolina but I'm not sure. I believe this book also has a follow-up book. Unfortunately it's not in circulation anymore at my public library system in Charlotte, NC. This may not be helpful but I really want to find this book because I remember liking it a lot.

Any chance it's Paula Chase's Del Rio Bay series, beginning with So Not the Drama?

I thought of That Girl Andy by Florence Crannel Means. But I think that's pre Civil Rights movement. She wrote some other college girl stories. I got them from the library in the late '70's. Maybe? I think her target audience would be YA or high school.
