Hey all! I was encouraged by some other members to get involved by documenting my reading for this year. I have always been an avid reader, but lately the amount has dropped off a little as I get busy with school, my job, and life... :(
This year, I am challenging myself to read more of both pleasure books and books designed to improve me in some way (personally or professionally). My initial goal is 15 for this year only because I have never actually counted the number of books I have read in a year. I will probably adjust that as I go.
This will record my quest. Feel free recommend books you think I may read.

What did you think of the Paradox trilogy? (I'm of course assuming since you read Heaven's Queen that you've read the others.)
I read it 5 (!) years ago and my notes from the time describe it as " a rollicking adventure tale with some YA-like angsty romance". I really liked Devi.

I have read the whole series. I really liked and also liked Devi as well. For a while, I wasn't sure how the author was going to solve the threat of the galaxy eating entities, but it wrapped up very well. I did not feel like the series left anything open for continuation or spinoff, but there were a lot of threads I would like to see explored.

I saw an article today about consent trends in YA. Did anyone else see this? I have only read a few of the books mentioned (Twilight; no offense to people who like it, but I personally detest Twilight) mostly because I moved away from YA fiction pretty early and read things by Sharon Shinn (Twelve Houses series, not her YA stuff...yet), Robin McKinley, Robert Jordan, and Kristen Britain when others my age were reading YA. I am trying to think through all those books and I don't remember any concerns with consent, but it has been a minute since I have read a few of them. I am wondering: were there not issues of consent in those novels (except maybe as a device of the villain...) or did they just not stand out to me because our society has issues with defining proper consent and at the time it wasn't a topic of discussion in main stream media? Please note: I am an advocate of consent.
