I try to find the books about a woman in New-York who finds a Private demon in a cellar

Hello everyone,
I am from Belgium. I received books a long time ago, but do not find them now, and I would like to read them again, they were funny.
The strory was about a girl, working in the University library, living in the cottage just nearby, who found a private demon in her cellar ... And she began to study magic with another guy, I don't remember everything, but it was light, not horrifying at all ...
If anyone could help me, it would be great !
