Book written in Japanese about WWII ...need some help

Hi, we own a small used books store and got a book in that we are trying to narrow down what it is. It is a hard cover, with a dark burgundy/brown cover. The spine is written in Japanese as is the rest of the book.
We had somebody in the store tell me this from a translation he used; book is from 1968; title may be:
History of the War Volume I from September 1942. It states is from Solomon Army Corps and the Defense Training Institute of Japan. It reads back to front and is 587 pages. In the inside back cover, there is a stamp that I was told is a seal similar to our SSN that identifies individuals and others that states: it is the seal of the War History Department. It has lots of B&W images and I was also told that the three military personnel in the very front were "super bad guys" that were responsible for killing a lot of people in the Philippines. There are also a lot of maps inside (not pull-out). I am looking for ANY additional info about this book as it seems to me, even if just one volume, it is something unique since it is likely from a non-US perspective. My email is wendy@coppercatbooks.com.

Do you have a picture of the book? I could just read the spine in that case instead of having to go off the translated info.

>3 gilroy: Why would they use Name That Book when they have the book in hand?
