Author field blank after using bulk uploader

I uploaded 2000+ books organized in a csv file using the exact fields found in the Library Thing sample (title, author, date, etc.). For some reason, the author field is blank for all records, but the other fields uploaded with no problems. I deleted my entire library and then uploaded it a second time, with the same problem. Of note: almost all the books in my library are rare/limited editions/artists books with no ISBNs. Any suggestions on how I can resolve the missing author field?

Well, since your library is private, it's hard for the common user to answer questions.
You might want to email info @ Librarything . com to find out what went wrong.

my guess is that there was something off in the formatting of that column that contained the author names. I can see some author names in weird places (publisher and tags?) which may not be intended which makes me wonder even more if your file has been badly formatted.

Unfortunately, the only way to fix it in bulk will be to delete these copies and reimport them once the file issue is discovered and fixed.

If you want to post the first few lines of your file (header included), someone may be able to spot what looks wrong.

Many of the publications have no named author, that is why a lot of the author fields are blank. Also, many of the authored books are self-published, hence their names are listed under publisher. Secondary authors are listed in the tags. I successfully uploaded the same file and format a few weeks ago. Yesterday I deleted the entire library, then uploaded an updated version with new entries; the update is the one that's problematic.

Here's a few lines of my file....

TITLE AUTHOR DATE ISBN PUBLICATION INFO TAGS
Zine Masters of the Universe Aarons, Philip E. 2013 Printed Matter
The W.C. #31(a) Abeles, Michele 2010 White Columns Margaret Lee, Daren Bader
The Medium of Contingency Abreu, Miguel 2015

missing commas perhaps? tabs might be acceptable, but I have not tried

>4 ArtistsBooksandZines: The sample lines all lack the proper space in a CSV file to designate the proper columns, thus things go to the wrong locations.

martpac (#4):

It looks like your file might be using tabs as a separator rather than commas? Try re-saving it with commas as the separator character and uploading again?
