I need help. I REALLY want to locate this book, but can't remember the author or the title of the book. I was in high school when I read it, found it in the school library, and I often think of this book, and found it impactful in my youth, and want to re-read it. It is fiction, deals with Catholicism, and the protagonist is female, and as I recall she is going on a trip with her husband, and while on the trip, intends to ask her husband for a divorce. While on the trip, she is in a boat ( in the ocean?) with her husband, and he is swimming outside of the boat, and some reckless individual comes by in a speed boat and her husband is hit in the head and killed. I believe she is with her husband at the hospital where he is declared dead, and she later goes for a walk and while on this walk (in the woods?), she witnesses a miracle, a vision of the Virgin Mary (maybe) or some angels, something fantastic, and she is very distraught, a lapsed Catholic, and decides to just go back to her hotel room, where she discovers her husband laying in bed with a toe tag on, and she uses a mirror to determine that he is breathing, alive, and had somehow made his way back to the hotel.

So our protagonist is sort-of a Job-like character, except that she is the opposite of Job, where Job was holy and found by God to be of such strong moral character that He allowed Satan to tempt him, harm him and his family, and try to turn him from God. Our protagonist was NOT a good Catholic, but God would basically use extortion of sorts to force her to do his will. Through the rest of the book, when the main character did what God wanted her to do, her husband's health would improve, when she took steps in the wrong direction, his health would decline. Very strange I know, but I am counting on the fact that if anyone else in the group has read it, that they might have a better memory than me and be able to give me a title or author so I can find the book.

Thanks In Advance,

Nixter

You want the Name That Book group: http://www.librarything.com/groups/namethatbook

Be sure to follow the guidelines, with particular attention to Enter a helpful Subject line that includes a genre and a clue . . . Words like 'Help' or 'Find this book' or 'Search' are not helpful in a subject line and should be avoided.

Many members of this group only open topics they think they can help with, so your subject line is important for getting the right people to read your post — the ones who probably know your book!
