This year I'm going to do fewer reviews, I think. Blame it on Covid ennui. However, I managed to snag an appointment for the first shot tomorrow, so perhaps my mood will lighten up. And, of course, tomorrow's Inauguration Day!!!!!!!!!

It's an early entry in her Three Pines mystery series, so I was just filling in, since I've read all the later ones.
Anxious People by Frederick Backman **** 1/19/21
Do you find the "Who's On First" skit funny? Well, there are sections of this that border on that insanity, and they were some of the most delightful parts of this tale of a confused bank robber, uncooperative (and unscared) hostages, and a father-and-son police duo dealing with the aftermath of one small mistake. All the characters are connected through various events or make new connections in the day of the robbery, and although there are scenes the reader might think a bit boring, they all feed into later revelations about the characters' lives. A lovely, amusing story about why we end up in the predicaments we do and how we can get out of them with a bit of a nudge.

I started the Three Pines series that way, too - by reading a bunch of them out of order before going back to the beginning and reading the ones I'd missed. I'm a few behind now, though.

Recursion by Blake Crouch **** 1/21/21
A suspenseful, fast-moving tale of scientists experimenting with using strong memories at the time of death to time travel to the past in order to change the outcome of events. Requires a bit of attention to follow as the characters' actions change the present and the remembered past.
