Looking for the title of a contemporary romance

I read a contemporary romance about two kids- who are poor, don't fit in and develop a supportive relationship. They lose touch. He loves to write and writes a novel about their relationship. Which he later gives to her to read. She's angry about this. If I remember correctly she was a foster child. I wonder if anyone can tell me the title
