Group Read, January 2021: Martin Chuzzlewit

Our group read for January 2021 is Charles Dickens’ Martin Chuzzlewit. Please join in the read and post any comments on this thread.

I'm planning to read this, but it may be a week or two til I start. I haven't read a Dickens novel in a long time. Well, except that I read A Christmas Carol with my son this year. I think before that, the last I read was Bleak House in 2014.

Anyone else planning to read this? I need to decide in the next couple days if I will this month, and I might not without moral support!

I've been a bit distracted though, with all of the political activity, and have not read that much.

I am definitely reading this as I am the one who suggested it.

I'm about two-thirds of the way through this and am again reminded how much I love reading Dickens. His use of language is the first thing that captures me but then I get caught up in the characters and the various plots. He certainly doesn't pull any punches about American venality in this book. I've just gotten to the part where Pecksniff has dismissed Thomas Pinch who is certainly the nicest person in the book. Please CD let Thomas Pinch triumph over his adversaries.

And I finished it on January 30th.
