lindapanzo's 2021 ROOTS

1lindapanzo
Editado: Dic 31, 2020, 1:24 pm

I'm back for 2021 for my 7th year in the ROOTs challenge. I love being able to see books fly off my bookshelves, print or Kindle, though, of course, I do tend to pick up more.

For 2021, I plan to take a broader view of ROOTs, including both print and Kindle books that I own along with Net Galley books on Kindle.

My goal is 72 but, hopefully, my enthusiasm for reading, which was largely missing in the 2020 pandemic year, will return in full force and I'll exceed this total by quite a bit.

Happy 2021 ROOTing!!

Wow, lots of visitors. Thanks for stopping by.

With today's snow and ice storm, I'm planning to stay in all day, listen to music and read. Despite my best intentions, my first two books of the year will likely be library books which certainly don't count as ROOTs.

Welcome back Linda! Enjoy your reading time!

Ene 10, 2021, 3:04 pm

While my 2021 reading has gone well, I received a whole slew of library books all at once. I'm working through those and will then get back to my regularly scheduled reading.

12lindapanzo
Ene 30, 2021, 2:34 pm

To reach my ROOT goal for 2021, I will need to read 6 ROOTs a month. In January, probably will finish with only 5 but this wasn't bad considering that nearly every library book I reserved came in all at once this month.

13connie53

There is enough time to reach your goal, Linda. I'm a bit behind on my ROOT reading too. I count on the Spring and Summer to catch up.

>14 connie53: Happy Easter to you and your family!!

I haven't been reading much at all lately as I've become a "vaccine hunter." I've been spending most of my free time finding covid vaccine appointments for family, friends, and mostly, complete strangers.

You can organize mine too!

I had an excellent reading month in May. At the end of April, my ROOTS were at 21% but, in May, I read 11 books (and all 11 were ROOTS), so I'm now only 4 behind my needed yearlong pace. I'm now at a much more respectable 36%.

I still help out occasionally on vaccine hunting but people can now pretty much walk in anywhere and really don't need much help anymore.

Hi Linda, making my rounds on the ROOTers threads. I'm fully vaccinated now, so there is no need for your intervention anymore ;-)

Good job on the ROOTs!

>18 connie53: Glad to hear that you got your doses. I mostly retired from it about mid-May when my last close family member/friend got his second dose (my 18 year old nephew who's doses were delayed because of the bike accident). Every once in awhile, if someone asks, such as a friend at work whose son has returned home from university in Scotland, I'll help.

It's been a slow reading year due to the vaccine hunting and, during the past month, with elderly Mom and then elderly Dad in the hospital.

I've been picking up the pace on ROOTS the past two months and now I'm only one ROOT behind my necessary pace (to reach my goal).

We've settled into a routine of taking care of Dad. He now goes to a VA doctor and the VA pays for 30 respite days a year for us.

We were supposed to go back to the office next week (after a year and a half). It's been pushed back again, to who knows when.

Hi! I just found your thread, here. What did you think of They Were Her Property? I also read it earlier this year and I thought it was well done, though of course the subject matter is unpleasant. I certainly learned a lot.

>23 rocketjk: I thought the same. It was a hard book to read but it overturned a lot of pre-conceived notions I had. Very interesting and informative.

>25 connie53: The VA is the U.S. Veterans Administration. Dad was in the Army in the late 1950's. So he gets lifetime medical care at VA clinics.

Thanks for explaining, Linda. We have that here too. Just could not figure out what the abbreviation could mean. It makes sense now.

At my worst this year, I think I was 9 or 10 books behind the needed pace to reach my ROOTS goal for the year. Now, with more than a week left in this month, I'm back on pace. Maybe I can even get ahead of the pace. Wouldn't that be nice for a change?

That's a very good job, Linda. Keep it up. I'm behind too. I changed my goal slightly so it must be doable for me too. If only I did not keep buying new books that look far more interesting than the ROOTs that are left om my shelves.
