I bought 'Rose Daughter' by Robin McKinley, illustrated by Anne Bachelier and published by CFM Gallery Books, several years ago, but recently recommended it to a friend. She's also very happy with her purchase, so I thought I'd share it here, too.
'Rose Daughter' is a re-telling of the Beauty and the Beast story. It's sold by this publisher in a gorgeous edition bound in red cloth with a large number of tipped-in colour illustrations and a very beautiful font and page layout. I'll show photos below. The book is quite large, about 29x36.5 centimetres. The edition costs 200$ and is well worth it in my opinion.
They also have editions of Poe, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and others there, though those are what you might call 'regular' books (no tipped in illustrations etc.), but still beautiful.
If you buy from outside the US, it's worthwhile contacting the Gallery to ask about combined shipping. It isn't cheap, but at least to Germany it was possible to ship several books for the same shipping fee as Rose Daughter on its own.

This is the book, but the colour is a bit distorted by the artificial light. The close-up shows it realistically.

Hmm...I tried adding her illustrated Edgar Allan Poe to my cart and it brought up a paypal error saying things don't seem to be working at the moment....

That happened to my friend, too. She wanted to buy three books, the Poe had this issue, the others could only be bought with a separate shipping fee for each through their automated system. But the Gallery arranged the purchase when she contacted them by email. In my experience and hers, they're very pleasant to deal with, but the shop isn't ideally set up, I guess.

May get sucked in and purchase as well.. The artwork is amazing. I’d never heard of this artist before but her work is right up my alley.

That's a complete mystery to me, too. I can only imagine that not enough people stumble across it. I only found out about it on some website about Robin McKinley, but that was pure coincidence.

These look wonderful, and it does look like there are special editions of Alice in Wonderland, as well!

I think there are special editions of all the books, some with original art. It really just depends on what one can afford. And the artwork is simply gorgeous in all of them.

Why has this not sold out? I'm guessing at least part of the reason is that the book is not letterpress. A signed edition is $400, and neither the author nor story are well known. It does have an entry on wikipedia, and the reception is not exactly what you might say overwhelmingly positive.

Thirdly, the website looks like a relic from the 90s. Pass for me, but won't deny that the illustrations are lovely.

I can't agree with the author not being well known, though mostly in the areas of fantasy and YA literature. She's actually won several awards there. Wikipedia lists the following:
1983 Newbery Honor for The Blue Sword.
1985 Newbery Medal for The Hero and the Crown.
1986 World Fantasy Award for Anthology/Collection for Imaginary Lands, as editor.
1998 Phoenix Award Honor Book for Beauty (it's actually from 78).
2004 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature for Sunshine.
In contrast to the person on the wikipedia page you linked to, I actually like Rose Daughter better than Beauty. I preferred the way it was written - the author was more mature here. However, her fairytale books aren't generally among my favourites among her work, I usually prefer it when she invents her own stories, Deerskin being the exception.
All that being said: Whether one likes her writing or not is of course a matter of personal taste and not something to argue about. I also agree that to me, 400$ was too steep a step just to get a signed copy. And yes, unfortunately the internet shop doesn't work well at all. Still, to me 200$ is a good price for what you get with the edition above. If it was letterpress, it would have to be considerably more expensive considering what you already get with a large number of tipped-in illustrations and the way the book is generally done with ornaments on the pages and the beautiful font.

>11 SF-72: yeah, "well known" is of course a relative term, but I really don't think many people have heard of her nor her books. Also, not judging the quality of her works. However, I think those factors make it difficult for many to justify spending $200-400+
