Book Name - kidnapped girl

I am looking for the name of a book about a young girl who was kidnapped as a child by a man and his wife. I remember something about she was around 3 or so and was out in the yard. She was taken and abused by the man. Somehow she was later released. She went on to live a very troubled life. She went to college and had an affair with her professor. Later on someone in her family dies and her kidnapper arrives at the funeral. I don't remember much as it has been a long time since I read it but I remember it having a cream or white cover and it was written by a woman. Any help would be much appreciated.
