Confirmation of Biden nominees.
Not waiting for the new (possibly D) Congress to be seated, committees in the R Senate began gathering info. Never mind that Trump Admin was awash with 'Actings' and the Senate confirmed Trump-nominated judges deemed unqualified by the ABA.

Dr. Jill
Willing to overlook FLOTUS Melania and COS Mark Meadow's misrepresentation of their educational attainments, conservative media and social media challenge Dr Jill Biden's honorific.

"Fckers"
Senator Rubio wilts at insult from Biden operative, never mind the sewage spewing from the White House these past four years. And never mind 300,000+ dead...

Neera Tanden
OMB nominee's old tweets likewise bruised the tender feelings of R senators whose confirmation she needs.

A democrat breaches decorum.

Republicans howl cynically—as though they hadn’t just spent four years in the thrall of a man who took a flamethrower to all notions of decency, the rule of law and democratic values.

Everyone points this out to them.

All of Twitter henceforward.

Then there's Hunter Biden whose sins are no doubt a pittance in comparison to our current crime family's.

The Hunter Biden thing does seem to me pretty small potatoes especially in comparison to a lot of shit that went on in the last 4 years. That said I think it's pretty clear that Hunter is something of a fuck up and didn't really bring anything to the table for the Ukrainian company he worked for other than his last name. There is some stink to this and it does taint father Joe a bit. I would like if ambitious politicians would take note of this in the future--that's more of a wish than a probability though. But really expect republicans to be hammering away relentlessly at this the next four years. To me this is unforced error material.

Republican Congressman Wants Mulligan on Impeachment Vote

Congressman Mike McCaul (R-Austin) releases statement wishing he'd given a crap about not voting to impeach the Weaponizer of the Big Lie. He just can't stop being an appeaser instead of a leader.
"I did not come to this decision lightly. And I truly fear there may be more facts that come to light in the future that will put me on the wrong side of this debate.”
What he meant and should have said is. . ."It mildly worries me that more will come out and I will be proven to be on the wrong side of history I will be proven to have done the wrong thing. Poor me, between a rock and a hard place." -- MSNBC Live with Katy Turr today.

He and several other Repub Reps. are whining that there wasn't enough time before they had to vote, and that they were rushed to judgment. Oh? Being witnesses as well as victims of the attack; hearing Trump's own words; hearing the gangs chant "Donald Trump sent us," while you hid and huddled, as well as ALL the video showing and telling you that these barbarians were at your gate because the Vandal-in-Chief sent them wasn't enough?

He and his fellow traveling weasel-minded Republicans need to answer the question: Just what is enough incitement to death, mayhem, and destruction is enough for you to vote to impeach the inciter? Just what is enough lying about the election outcome and attempts to overthrow the government you purportedly serve enough lying and insurrection for you to vote to impeach the betrayer?

Maybe you're too stupid for high office and should resign. Better yet, maybe you should be disciplined by Pelosi and recalled by your district as unfit to serve.

'21 All-Star Game, Draft moved from Atlanta
Anthony Castrovince | April 2, 2021

Major League Baseball announced on Friday that it will relocate the 2021 All-Star Game and MLB Draft, originally scheduled to take place in Atlanta, to a to-be-determined location.

The decision comes a little more than a week after the passage of S.B. 202, a Georgia law that President Joe Biden criticized earlier this week, saying that it will restrict voting access for residents of the state.

Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement that the decision to move the All-Star Game was “the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport” and was made after consultation with teams, former and current players, the MLB Players Association and The Players Alliance, among others.

“Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box,” Manfred said. “In 2020, MLB became the first professional sports league to join the non-partisan Civic Alliance to help build a future in which everyone participates in shaping the United States. We proudly used our platform to encourage baseball fans and communities throughout our country to perform their civic duty and actively participate in the voting process. Fair access to voting continues to have our game’s unwavering support.”...

ETA: Trump sez cancel MLB?

Obama congratulates MLB for 'taking a stand' against Georgia election law as Trump calls for boycott
Veronica Stracqualursi | April 3, 2021

Obama on Saturday congratulated the league "for taking a stand on behalf of voting rights for all citizens," following MLB's Friday announcement. The Democrat's tweeted support of the move struck a starkly different tone from his Republican successor's statement late Friday that called for a boycott of baseball and all of the "woke companies that are interfering with Free and Fair Elections."

...GA Gov Brian Kemp blasted the MLB's decision during a Saturday news conference as caving to "fear and lies from liberal activists" and putting "the wishes" of Biden and Stacey Abrams, a Georgia Democrat and voting rights advocate, "ahead of the economic well-being of hard-working Georgians who were counting on the All-Star Game for a paycheck."

Atlanta's Democratic Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield on Saturday that the MLB's decision would likely be the "first of many boycotts of our state to come" and urged Republican state lawmakers, who passed the measure, to repeal it or make changes.

Bottoms told CNN that while she doesn't like MLB's decision to pull the game from her city, "I certainly understand it," adding that "it is hurting our economy and it's my hope that, finally, leaders across the state will listen."

"Just as the legislators and the governor made the decision to go forward with this bill, people are making decisions not to come to our state. And it's going to impact millions of Georgians, employment, small businesses, our corporations, and it's very unfortunate," she said...

GOP Has Lost Credibility On Federal Debt Gripes, Chris Wallace Tells Sen. Roy Blunt
Mary Papenfuss | April 4, 2021, 11:07 PM·1 min read

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace fact-checked Republicans on Sunday when he told Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) that the party had “lost credibility” when complaining about the federal deficit after pumping up the red ink during the Trump administration.

The fact arose in a discussion of President Joe Biden’s plan to invest in a $2 trillion national infrastructure program and to raise corporate taxes after they were slashed under Donald Trump’s leadership, from 35% to 21%.

“Some of your colleagues in the Republican Party are complaining” that Biden’s infrastructure program is “going to explode debt ... explode deficits,” Wallace noted.

But he pointed out to Blunt that under the Trump White House, the nation added more than $3 trillion to the national debt — even before the coronavirus pandemic — while slashing tax revenue by $1.5 trillion.

So “when I hear, for instance, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell talking now about, ‘Well, debt and deficits,’ hasn’t the Republican Party, haven’t you, lost your credibility on this issue?” Wallace asked...

#29–I suspect if Duncan’s staff does submit legislation to take away baseball’s antitrust protection it will never reach the house floor in this congress. It will get killed in committee. Elections have consequences.

#30–when have corporations not been involved in politics? Quite often it’s corporate lawyers writing the bills that a congressperson or a Senator attaches his name to. If there’s a rift between corporations and the Republican Party it’s not going to bode well for the Republican Party. We all know that corporations spend a shitload of money and that industries are much more likely to get the things they want than the population at large. Republicans have this strange idea that they now represent the working class but the working class these days is a lot more brown, black and female than it’s ever been and they certainly don’t represent them. They represent a lot of aggrieved white middle class and upper middle class professionals and retirees that they’ve decided are the working class and also a lot of poor whites particularly in the South and add in loads of evangelicals and the rapture happy and they certainly have racists, neo-nazi’s and klanners on their sides and lots of police. All that though is easily a minority of voters.

McConnell, GOP slam Biden's executive order on SCOTUS
Tal Axelrod - 04/09/21

McConnell in a statement said the order and growing calls from liberals to expand the high court marked “open disdain for judicial independence” and that Biden’s action marked a “direct assault” on the judiciary. “Rational observers know well there is nothing about the structure or operation of the judicial branch that requires ‘study,’ ...This faux-academic study of a nonexistent problem fits squarely within liberals’ years-long campaign to politicize the Court, intimidate its members, and subvert its independence...President Biden campaigned on a promise of lowering the temperature and uniting a divided nation...If he really meant it, he would stop giving oxygen to a dangerous, antiquated idea and stand up to the partisans hawking it.”

...“Make no mistake, this commission is simply another attempt by the Democrats to rewrite the rules — this time to expand the Supreme Court to a size sufficient to wash out the conservative justices appointed under President Trump,” said Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.). “As Tennessee’s Senator, I vehemently oppose this effort to turn the Supreme Court and the federal courts into a rubber stamp for the Democrats’ activist agenda by overwhelming the bench with justices that will disregard the U.S. Constitution.”

Whatever the commission says, the truth is that Democrats want to pack the Court to implement a leftist agenda that Americans don't want,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) tweeted...

My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell...said in February that more than 20 retailers decided not to sell his products anymore and that he lost $65 million for his support of former President Trump's election claims.

...Lindell believes Costco’s decision was a part of “cancel culture” that led other companies to drop him for his political beliefs...(“They are doing this because I’m speaking out about something I believe in”)

...There has been a petition with more than 108,000 signatures urging Costco, Walmart and Amazon to drop Lindell’s products.

...Lindell is being sued by Dominion Voting Systems for $1.3 billion for his false fraud claims that the use of Dominion voting machines cost Trump the election.

Republican effort fails to censure Maxine Waters after Chauvin trial judge's admonishment
The resolution, introduced by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., went down on a party line vote.
Allan Smith and Alex Moe | April 20, 2021

...House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Tuesday introduced the resolution to censure Waters, saying her comments, "raised the potential for violence, directed lawlessness, and may have interfered with a co-equal branch of government."

The resolution was tabled with a 216-to-210 party-line vote.

Waters made the remarks while appearing at a racial justice protest Saturday in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, a suburb near where the Chauvin trial is taking place that has been roiled by protests after Daunte Wright, 20, was killed by police this month.

"We've got to get more confrontational," Waters told reporters when asked what would happen if Chauvin is acquitted...

It’s intriguing the people who claim Covid deaths were overinflated from concomitant illness are the same people
who are saying people dying after the vaccine are dying from the vaccine and
not because we vaccinated the most elderly, frail, sick individuals with short life spans.

Republicans promote pandemic relief they voted against
STEVE PEOPLES | May 6, 2021

...The Republicans’ favorite provisions represent a tiny sliver of the massive law, which sent $1,400 checks to millions of Americans, extended unemployment benefits until September, increased the child tax credit, offered housing assistance for millions of low-income Americans and expanded health care coverage. Republicans tried to negotiate a smaller package, arguing that Biden’s plan was too expensive and not focused enough on the nation’s health and economic crises.

...GOP lawmakers have been especially bullish about promoting the rescue plan’s Restaurant Revitalization Fund, which devoted $28.6 billion to the struggling industry.

...Beyond funding for restaurants, Republicans have also touted millions of dollars in health care grants allocated to their districts in the latest stimulus plan...

Republicans think it's easier to prevent people from voting than to come up with a platform that people want to vote for.

They're trying to tell us something.

Jaw droppingly cheap trick, especially given failure to appoint commission on Jan 6:

Marco Rubio wants to pause student debt – but only to terrorism survivors
Florida senator introduced a bill to ‘provide a one-year pause for victims’ to ‘get back on their feet’
Lois Beckett | 10 Jun 2021 21.18 EDT

...The Terrorism Survivors Student Loan Deferment Act would “provide a one-year pause for (terrorism) victims”, allowing them time to “get back on their feet”, or to apply for additional loan deferments, according to Rubio’s office...

It is disgusting and despicable to see Gosar lie about that day and smear the men and women who defended us.

A former Pence aide says Trump and Miller tried to stymie Afghan refugee efforts.
Michael D. Shear | Aug. 21, 2021

...A homeland security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence accused the Trump administration of distorting the truth about Afghan refugees, writing on Twitter that the former president and Stephen Miller, his top immigration adviser, sought to prevent the refugees from entering the United States.

In an interview, Olivia Troye recalled sitting in meetings where Mr. Miller demanded restrictions on refugees, including those from Afghanistan and Iraq. She said the reductions in the refugee program during the Trump years hollowed out the government’s ability to bring the interpreters and others to the United States.

“Now we are in this crisis and they are saying Trump would have evacuated them,” Ms. Troye said. “But he didn’t in four years. You don’t get to play revisionist history here. There are people who know what the situation is.”

...President Donald J. Trump and his allies have repeatedly claimed in recent days that his administration would have handled a withdrawal from Afghanistan better than President Biden, whom he criticized for failing to evacuate Americans and Afghans who worked with the United States. Top conservative commentators, including Ben Domenech, have tweeted in support of Mr. Trump.

(Pence Homeland Security aide 0livia) Troye sought to rebut those claims on Twitter and in an interview, claiming instead that Trump administration officials had worked to undermine the immigration system that brings Afghan and Iraqi allies into the country by granting them a Special Immigrant Visa indicating they had supported the American war effort.

Mr. Miller “& his enablers across gov’t would undermine anyone who worked on solving the SIV issue by devastating the system at DHS & State,” she wrote on Twitter.

...The Biden administration has said it is only allowing fully vetted Afghans into the United States. But in a series of tweets last week, Mr. Miller warned against bringing “millions” of Afghans to the United States.

“Bottom line: if we are not careful, all we could have to show for 20 years in Afghanistan is a failed terror state, a humanitarian catastrophe, and an immigration policy that has brought the threat of jihadism inside our shores,” Mr. Miller wrote.

“If we want to safely and effectively assist the *millions* of people likely leaving Afghanistan,” he added, “the focus must be on regional resettlement — not mass relocation inside the United States.”
