Merry December, everyone! What are you reading in this final month of the year? I'm currently in the middle of Slightly Sinful by Mary Balogh. How about you?

Wow, our last month of the year! I am reading The River by Peter Heller and Alphabet of Dreams by Susan Fletcher. The Heller novel is built around a canoe trip in Northern Canada. It is fast paced and exciting. Alphabet of Dreams is set at the time of the birth of Jesus and is about two children, one of whose dreams can predict the future.

Today I finished The Traveller and Other Stories, by Stuart Neville. I have a lot of crime on deck so of course I am gravitating to a sci-fi book in the pile: Amorality Tale, a Doctor Who novel by David Bishop.

I finished the 5th Johnson Johnson spy thriller today - Split Code. I have been enjoying this series despite the fact that in spots it shows its age (written in the 1960s & 70s).

In progress I have a reread of A Farewell to Arms (which has been neglected the past week or so) and a library book, I'll Go to Bed at Noon, both of which I started for November KITs/CATs. Oh well...

I started Gerald Durrell's A Zoo in My Luggage in audiobook for a change in pace.

I'm skimming through Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach for my book club next week. I read this a few years ago but thought I might skim it. Also I'm reading The Dressmaker's Gift by Fiona Valpy which was supposed to be my book for the October Alpha Kit and The Gardener's Bed book by Richardson Wright which I've been reading all year.

I am reading A Crime of a Different Stripe by Sally Goldenbaum, which is part of a series of mystery novels featuring a group of women (the Seaside Knitters). Having read the others in the series, I feel as if they are family by now.

I've started A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik, which I'm really enjoying so far, even though it's quite different from her other books.

Reading An Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro. It fills in the last square on my BingoDOG card for this year -- a book set in Asia -- and also completes an Alphabet Challenge that I started seven years ago! Yes, I'm slow. But persistent.

Continued the Vera Stanhope series by reading The Glass Room, by Ann Cleeves.

Next up in crime is The Less Dead, by Denise Mina, which I'd actually borrowed a while back but ran out of time to finish. So I'll skim through what I've read already, then pick up the rest.

Just finished Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell that was wonderful. It deserved every one of the five stars I gave it.

After a couple of so-so reads, I am treating myself to some Murderbot stories with Rogue Protocol and Exit Strategy. I am also about to return to a zombie series by David Moody with Autumn: Disintegration.

>10 pamelad: Aw, Arabella is tempting me to reread it now...

I have finished A Zoo in My Luggage, decided to give up for now on A Farewell to Arms and have been ignoring I'll Go to Bed at Noon in order to read Gaudy Night & Busman's Honeymoon followed by The Whisper in the Gloom. I have also been dipping into several of my sci fi/fantasy short story anthologies.

Decided to pick up More Than a Woman, by Caitlin Moran, today. Of the several library books due back tomorrow, it has the most holds on it. But I had to check first to make sure I hadn't put it on my Christmas list! (Turns out I'd put How to Be Famous on my list instead.)

Finally finished I'll Go to Bed at Noon - well written but I found the content a bit depressing (it is about a dysfunctional family with particular problems with alcoholism).

Then I breezed through several young adult audiobooks - On Two Feet and Wings (4.5*), The Name of the Star (3.5*) and Wild Bird (4*).

And today I read the latest Louise Penny mystery, All the Devils Are Here, in one big gulp :)

I am reading Only Killers and Thieves by Paul Howarth which is really holding my attention. I also picked up the final book in the Thrush Green series, Christmas at Thrush Green and I am enjoying my stroll back in time to the Cotswolds of the (I think) 1960s.

Argh, my e-hold on Moon of the Crusted Snow expired, so I'll have to try AGAIN.

In the meantime, not sure what to pick up. Might be time for another re-read. Life, the Universe and Everything perhaps.

Inspired by Jackie_K pointing out that I was one away from having *100* own-books read this year, I'm reading Myths of the Norsemen, by Roger Lancelyn Green. This is a re-read from my childhood. You can tell how much I liked it by how dinged-up my copy is :D
