PICK THREE READING CHALLENGE - DECEMBER 2020

Remember that you may combine 3 books from any of the categories any way you wish. You may choose one book from 3 different ones; 3 books from the same; 2 from one and 1 from another etc…just so you end up with 3

December 5 – Repeal Day
This day commemorates the repeal of the 18th Amendment. Once more, Americans were free to buy, sell, and consume alcoholic beverages. The United States Congress passed the 18th amendment on January 16, 1919. The 16th Amendment prohibited the manufacture, transportation, sale and consumption of alcohol. It was repealed by ¾ of the states on December 5, 1933.

December 7 – National Pearl Harbor Day
A day of infamy…the day Japan attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. On that day in 1941, more than 2,400 people died in Japan’s attack on the Hawaiian base of America’s Pacific Fleet. Hundreds of aircraft were destroyed or damaged, as were most of the ships in the harbor, and thousands of service men and women were killed or injured. It was an unprecedented surprise attack that precipitated the United States entry into WW II as we sided with the Allies and declared war on Japan.

December 14 – National Postal Workers Day (U.K)
Show your appreciation and thanks to all the postal workers on “National Postal Worker Day”. These are the men and women who deliver the mail to you by vehicle or walking, six days a week, under all kinds of weather. There are about 490,000 workers in the United States, and over 120,000 in the U.K. They include the clerks behind the counter, mail sorters, truck drivers, management, and a wide range of other jobs at the Postal Service. Postal carriers, who walk their routes, typically walk 4 to 8 miles per day, with a full bag of mail weighing up to 35 – 40 pounds.

December 21 – Winter Solstice Day
This is the astronomical first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest day of the year.

December 25 – Christmas Day for the Christian world
Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year. Christmas has both a strong religious and traditional meaning. It has a certain feel, all to itself, that you usually do not feel at any other time of the year. It creates within us, a sense of kindness and concern for fellow man. At no other time are we more generous and giving. It creates a sense of family and belonging. Everyone comes home for the Christmas holiday. It is a time of family and giving. It is truly a time that comes but once a year. Christmas is celebrated in most countries around the world.

December 31 – New Year’s Eve
This is the last day of the year. It is a major social observance in many countries and many parties are held… particularly in the evening. HAPPY NEW YEAR

I am a proud US Postal worker

>4 ColinMichaelFelix: I have a couple of friends that are also proud postal workers. If they're delivering the mail, it's a hot job in the summer and a cold job in the winter. If they mail is late or doesn't get delivered...they take the blame. Never mind the fact that sometimes it was never put IN the mail in the first place. I want to say "Thank You" for the great job that you people do. Also thank you for pointing out my error. There should be a law that authors can't have the same first or last names:))

>5 Carol420: You are very welcomed with regards to the Postal Service. Yes it so often is a thankless job with a lot of blame but it is so satisfying when someone recognizes what we do. I also know what you mean about the same last or full names.
