Almost time to welcome in 2021, and time to think about group reads for December and the New Year. Please nominate up to two books, and second as many nominated books as you like.

I would like to nominate Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris by Paul Gallico and Fools of Fortune by William Trevor.

It's the time of year I start looking at chunkies, then get put off by the number of pages.
So
*deep breath*
War and Peace Tolstoy.

>4 Helenliz: *Also taking a deep breath* I will second War and Peace.

I'd love to read Mrs. Harris goes to Paris so I'll second that and I'll propose Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens.

Second Fools of Fortune and Martin Chuzzlewit and nominate W. G., Sebald, The Emigrants, and George Eliot, The Mill on the Floss. The latter for those in search of a chunker.

>7 annamorphic: Martin Chuzzlewit is quite a chunker.

Four books were seconded above so we will go to a run off poll. The poll is here:

https://vote.pollcode.com/58839733

and the results are here:

https://poll.pollcode.com/58839733_result?v

I will close the poll in about a week. The winner will be the book with the most votes. There will be no recounts or appeals to the Supreme Court....

The winner of the poll was Mrs Harris goes to Paris so that will be our December read. There was a tie in second place between Martin Chuzzlewit and Fools of Fortune so we will have a run-off poll for our January 2021 read. Please vote once only for one of the books:

I will close the poll in around a week

The runoff poll proved as indecisive as the first poll so I’ll have to use my casting vote for Martin Chuzzelwit if only because Dickens has 10 books on the combined list and we’ve never had one as a group read. This will be our January group read.

>11 puckers: I may be reading Martin Chuzzelwit for December and Mrs.'Arris for January since I have the first one on my shelves.

>11 puckers: we’ve never done a Dickens group read?! That’s shocking! I will try to join in for Martin Chuzzlewit. I haven’t read that one yet.
