Talk Like a Pirate Day Treasure Hunt - Pelican Edition

Sep 18, 2020, 7:33pm

It's Talk like a Pirate Day, so we let some pelicans loose on the site!

To celebrate Talk Like Pirate Day, we let a bunch of pelicans loose on the site for you to find. 16, to be precise. Read and solve each clue in the treasure hunt, then find the page on LibraryThing that matches your answer. When you find the right solution, you’ll see a banner at the top of your screen announcing that you’ve found one of the pelicans. Remember: it's not necessarily a work page!

Go here for the hunt!

You have just over one week—until Monday, Sept 28th at 9am EDT—to find as many pelicans as you can.

Use this thread to brag, ask for and give hints, etc.

As in past hunts, we'll be awarding profile badges to anyone who finds at least one pelican, and anyone who finds all 16 will be entered into a drawing for a LibraryThing coaster set and sticker. Shirt stock is difficult to access while the office is still closed for social distancing, hence the coasters.

Important: When giving hints, please use the spoiler tag. To mark something as a spoiler, start your message like this:

And end it like this:

If you’re not seeing banners, or the hunt is otherwise not working for you, you may be using the old site design. Hunts don’t work on the old version of the site. You can switch to the new version by going here. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look under "Design." You can always switch back after the treasure hunt, if you like.

Happy hunting!

P.S. Thanks to conceptDawg for the pelican illustration! He's made our treasure hunt graphics in the last couple years. We like them, and hope you do, too!

The announcement banner is showing up on series pages.

Sep 18, 2020, 8:15pm

It's a tough one this year! Stuck on 2, 4, 11, and 16.

Sep 18, 2020, 8:40pm

Yay, I was going to post that I can’t wait for the pirate hunt, and found the hunt is on already. I was soooo happy! I will work on them right now :D

Editado: Sep 18, 2020, 9:59pm

Ooo this is a hard one for me. Only got 5.

>3 amanda4242:
I do have 11. Think you can definitely get it with enough thought.

Edit: 10/16, improving
Edit: 12/16... 13/16... 14/16... 15/16

It's 2 I can't get. :| No hints requested - got all week.

Last edit: 16/16. Success. :D
Other last edit: I have no idea which book was #1. Seem to have accidentally gotten it. Eh.

Sep 18, 2020, 10:01pm

This has been a hard one. I'm currently stuck on 4 and 8, not ready for hints yet!

Sep 18, 2020, 10:29pm

>2 amanda4242: The announcement banner is showing up on series pages.

Is this a bug? How?

Sep 18, 2020, 10:33pm

This is a tough one! I'm not nearly as good as many others and always need hints to help me through, but this one is tougher than most. I'll have to pop back in for more hints, after I do a bit of Googling.

Editado: Sep 18, 2020, 10:47pm

>7 timspalding: It's showing on the home page and series pages, but not on any others. It's not on work pages, author pages, in talk, etc.

ETA: I just discovered it's also showing on More and Zeitgeist.

ETA: I've checked a bit more, and it appears that it's showing on all of the recently revamped pages.

Editado: Sep 18, 2020, 11:39pm

Wow, this is the hardest one in quite a while! I am quite chuffed that I've got as many as I have, although still stuck on 1, 4, and 7. I'll keep plugging away at them, though! This is fun!

Edit: I got #1!

Sep 18, 2020, 11:14pm

So you get to see a banner saying the hunt is on on those pages? I don't, I've never gotten banners for the hunts, no matter how much I select the new version (which I can't even find to try selecting again this time). I do get the banner at the top when I find a pelican, though.

Sep 18, 2020, 11:43pm

Sorry this one is hard, people. We can't tell our own strength. I have to admit, I figured #16 would be hard.

Sep 18, 2020, 11:44pm

In the clue for Pelican 14, can 1968 possibly be right?

Sep 18, 2020, 11:49pm

>12 timspalding:

I'd think you'd expect 8 to be the hardest.

Editado: Sep 18, 2020, 11:52pm

And got the last two. It took me forever to realise what I was looking for for 8.

Thanks, that was a great challenge.

ETA: working out 16 was easy, the hard part was navigating through the login and cookbook capcha

Sep 18, 2020, 11:57pm

I'm pretty sure I know what to look at for 16, but I don't know the language.

Sep 19, 2020, 12:04am

>16 amanda4242: for #16 try googling "grup mes" - it will give you a line on the language

Sep 19, 2020, 12:09am

yep for 16 i just stuck grup and mes into google translate and let it tell me

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 12:22am

>17 tardis: & >18 Aquila: I must be doing something wrong. Google translate gives me Spanish, but I don't get a pelican when I try the site.

ETA: Got it! Forgot to add the accent when translating.

Sep 19, 2020, 12:20am

OK, seven found so far, including #16. (That one was fun grabbing!) Going to take a bit of a break before I do some more before I start looking at hints.

Sep 19, 2020, 1:53am

Down to #2 and #8. They are driving me crazy, so I'm sleeping on it.

Sep 19, 2020, 1:53am

Ooh the excitement of another hunt is still winning out over the dismay at how slowly I am working out the answers (although I too got 16), but it is close! I think I will have a break and hope my subconscious works on the answers overnight...

Sep 19, 2020, 3:17am

>12 timspalding: At least #12 isn't that hard.

Sep 19, 2020, 3:24am

>21 parlerodermime: For #2 It's a "How To" book

For #8 All of us on the good ship LT follow this code.

Sep 19, 2020, 3:28am

OK, up to nine found. been going down a lot of dead ends on a couple I think I know. Especially #15, which I'm pretty sure refers to Helpers of all sorts here on LT but beats me the right page to look at.

Sep 19, 2020, 4:37am

>25 rastaphrog:
try Zeitgeist and go from there.

Sep 19, 2020, 6:48am

>26 vancouverdeb: Thanks! That helped greatly. And, by going down numerous roads, I found another, so now I have eleven. I'm going to keep trying on the other five, and since we have over a week, am going to try to avoid looking at any more hints for awhile. (Not that there are any for what I need yet.)

Sep 19, 2020, 7:31am

Finally got the lot. #4 and #6 were the hardest for me.

Sep 19, 2020, 7:33am

I've only ever tried the Lobster hunt before but, with the help of three clues on this page, I'm only missing #4, #9, #13, and #16 (I'm assuming I know what this is but don't know where).

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 8:08am

This one is trickier, which I think is a good thing. I've got 13 so far, and the three remaining (#1, #7, #13) are properly stumping me.

I'll keep trying. No hints needed just yet.

Sep 19, 2020, 8:13am

#4 is about a specific person. A beverage often associated with pirates is named for that person
For #6, One word in the first line points at the title, one word in the third line points at the author's best known work, which has been turned into a TV series.
#13, You're looking for one word that rhymes with one of the unrhymed lines.
Finding the right page for #16 was the hardest part. Preface the usual URL with the first 3 letters of the language.

1, 2 and 9 are beating me. 9 especially frustrates me, because I know I just need to think of the right -ology word and can't.

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 8:35am

My first treasure hunt, it's been a fun way of spending a stormy afternoon - I've got 10 so far, still stuck on 3, 4, 7, 8, 13, and 16. Won't look at the hints yet...
Edit: got 16 thanks to a hint

Sep 19, 2020, 8:26am

>31 DemetriosX:
For #9, the -ology you're looking for has as its first part a word that ends in a silent -e. Until I added that letter I didn't get anywhere, either.

For #2, see >24 rastaphrog:

Sep 19, 2020, 8:37am

When I click the "here" for the newer version, I get "Celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day with a Pelican hunt!
I have tried two computers.

Sep 19, 2020, 9:45am

I can't find any because Search isn't working.

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 10:06am

Search should be back up.

ETA: no, it went back down. Back up.

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 10:45am

It's OK now!

Oh no, it isn't.

Sep 19, 2020, 10:49am

I've managed to find everything except #11. Hints?

Sep 19, 2020, 10:54am

For #16 my login apparently doesn't work? Help!

Sep 19, 2020, 10:55am

>38 amanda4242: You are looking for an author. Famous playwright

Sep 19, 2020, 11:01am

>40 calm: Thanks!

Sep 19, 2020, 11:02am

I need help with #7 and #8, Please.

Sep 19, 2020, 11:09am

OK, so for 16 I managed to sign in on the Spanish site, but I got nothing. I'm logged in, but zilch for recognition.

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 11:17am

>43 Bookmarque: Try another language related to Spanish

>42 keeneam: for #7 a character from the original of #5

for #8 take a look at the links at the bottom of the page

Sep 19, 2020, 11:22am

>44 calm: Thank You!! I found them both!

Sep 19, 2020, 11:23am

I tried the Portugal site and nothing. It won't even load. Does Catalan have a site? Not that it's related to Spanish.

Sep 19, 2020, 11:25am

>46 Bookmarque: It's Catalan.

Sep 19, 2020, 11:25am

>46 Bookmarque: catalan has a site. I thought it was related to Spanish

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 11:30am

Nothing to see here.

Sep 19, 2020, 11:29am

>48 calm: & >49 Bookmarque: Like Spanish, it's a Romance language.

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 11:36am

Still can't get it to load.

Can get the French and German sites to come up though that doesn't help.

Is there another designation besides .cat ? That's the only one I can find a record of.

Sep 19, 2020, 11:49am

>51 Bookmarque: It's prefixed to the standard URL. cat.

I'm still stuck on 1 and 2. The only hint for 2 is no help at all.

Sep 19, 2020, 11:58am

>52 DemetriosX: #1 I tagmashed girl, pirate, series. You need the series page

#2 How to be (the theme) book; very few copies on LT

Sep 19, 2020, 12:21pm

>53 calm: Thanks. For #2 I just didn't go far enough down the list. The right book was like 10th or something.

Sep 19, 2020, 12:39pm

Wow - it was tough this time!

Thank you for another great hunt!

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 1:43pm

I've got three (1, 6 and 14) so far. Will be back when I give in and need more clues ...

Book 12: hilarious. Ha. Ha.
Book 9: make sure you spell it correctly; I didn't, the first time I searched.

Sep 19, 2020, 1:34pm

I am getting a pelican but not showing I have found the answer. So, I clicked dismiss trying anything. How do I get that back? Appreciate any help.

Sep 19, 2020, 1:37pm

Hard one this time. Need help with 9, 13 and 15 . Thanks

Sep 19, 2020, 1:46pm

>58 tina1969:

#9: An -ology about pirates? What could that book be called?

#13: You're looking for a tag. It's a single word, and the various hints (you can mark a physical one with an x, or a digital one with a pin, etc.) are about that word.

#15: This one is not a book, an author, a tag or a series. It's a page on LT where you can find information about people on LT who split, flag and translate things.

Sep 19, 2020, 2:49pm

Whew! Got them all - thanks to plenty of help from the clues offered above! :)

Sep 19, 2020, 3:04pm

#12 are we looking for another book by the person listed as writing the script for the movie Cast Away? Cause I don't see any other book on that author's page.

Sep 19, 2020, 3:09pm

>61 al.vick: #12 It's a book by the author of Robinson Crusoe.

Sep 19, 2020, 3:16pm

I need help on 4. Any suggestions? I can't find anything by an author that rhymes with -alty

Sep 19, 2020, 3:16pm

Down to just three: 7, 10, and 11

For 7, I'm stuck on the crocodile for some reason. I blame Disney.
For 10, I know what the holiday is but everything I try for Jewish New Year is not getting it.
For 11, I'm just lost.

Sep 19, 2020, 3:18pm

>63 al.vick: The hint in >31 DemetriosX: actually helps a lot.

Sep 19, 2020, 3:25pm

>65 gilroy: That doesn't help me at all.

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 3:29pm

>63 al.vick: #4 Do a tagmash of nonfiction and pirates. The book's author's name rhymes with salty.

>64 gilroy: #7 The crocodile ate his hand.
#10 Not the holiday, just the religion.
#11 A playwright. Not generally know for pirate tales; probably most famous for a play about a gloomy Danish prince.

ETA better clues.

Sep 19, 2020, 3:32pm

>67 amanda4242: yeah tried that. Finally found the right pirate to search for.

Sep 19, 2020, 3:37pm

>24 rastaphrog:, thanks, got them. For #8, I clearly skipped over the wein the first line, and went down some weird rabbit holes about code of conduct and synonyms.... you'd really think a book entitled "Pirate's Apprentice Code of Conduct" would be the answer, but no! and the French drinking age used to be 16, so.....

I already had the how-to idea for #8, but it wasn't indexed by the publication date in ck, and there are so few copies, it hadn't been tagged to come up in tagmash, so it wasn't coming up for me. I definitely had tried a few of those books in >53 calm:, but I guess hadn't clicked on that particular work in the name search result. I did find an author who had several tattoo coloring books though. Not the right lead!

Anyway, 16/16.

Sep 19, 2020, 4:01pm

>66 al.vick: Look up types of rum, find a pirate, then search for what his real name was.

>67 amanda4242: Okay, that got me 11, but I tried your hint in 7 before posting, no dice. And 10 doesn't help me a bit.

Sep 19, 2020, 4:05pm

>70 gilroy: #7 You want the character page without the first name.
#10 If you enter the name of the religion and pirates in search, it will be the only book which shows up.

Sep 19, 2020, 4:09pm

>71 amanda4242: Okay, that's got them. Thanks!

Now all 16 done

Sep 19, 2020, 5:12pm

O well. I got it.

Sep 19, 2020, 5:49pm

How do I go back to the English version? I can’t read the language.

Sep 19, 2020, 6:04pm

I agree: this is the most difficult one yet. The last one was the easiest. I just started this morning and have 2. I will wait a few more days before looking for some hints, but I think I will need lots of them!

Sep 19, 2020, 6:07pm

>76 Yamanekotei:

Editado: Sep 19, 2020, 7:06pm

Got ‘em all! #7 gave me a hard time because I put in the character’s full name, oh, about a half dozen times! Right character, too precise for the computer.

BTW, *excellent* pelican pic, conceptDawg! Kudos! I particularly like the ship in the distance. :-)

Sep 19, 2020, 7:04pm

>78 Petroglyph:

Sep 19, 2020, 8:24pm

Got 11 on the first go-through, still need 2, 4, 8, 10, and 13.

Finally managed to get them all - fabulous hunt! Thank you all

Editado: Sep 20, 2020, 1:27am

Editado: Sep 20, 2020, 1:42am

Sep 20, 2020, 4:14am

Almost there, still need more help with 9, thanks

Sep 20, 2020, 6:19am

>90 tina1969: #9 If you were looking for "ologies" on animals you'd probably search for zoology so search for the equivalent for buccaneers (or what this hunt is about).

Sep 20, 2020, 6:41am

Now got them all. 9 I don't think I would have got without the help or 16 so thanks all x

Sep 20, 2020, 7:02am

Thanks for another fantastic treasure hunt! This time realising what #16 was about made me laugh out loud. Great! The problem for me was finding my way back again, which made it even funnier. In all a lot harder than the ones lately, but since there's still plenty of time to go and I only had to look at hints for one, I've nothing to complain about. Thanks and thanks again!

Editado: Sep 20, 2020, 8:10am

I couldn't find any solution to umber 13, so I googled it, and somehow got on a page where all the clues are already answered. (It still says Pride Hunt, but has the Pirate Hunt clues)...

Sep 20, 2020, 9:46am

Editado: Sep 20, 2020, 10:14am

Google milk and time travel and you'll probably hit on it. One of the authors wrote a famous book about gods...the new world variety.

Sep 20, 2020, 11:57am

got just #16. The hardest thing was to find the correct site, since it's not www.librarything.{domain}..

And another beverage associated with pirates IS actually named for a specific individual, as I learned from Google, so that "hint" was very un-helpful.

Great hunt!

If you're on the correct site, you will be awarded the pelican immediately. You'll know that you're on the correct site if, when you arrive there not logged in, you get a message about having found a pelican, but not having it added to your total since you aren't logged in on that site.

I struggled with #8 and then went through a series of synonyms for What everyone agrees to abide by when they join the site as stated above in >84 amanda4242:.

But I went through so fast that I didn't see the banner state I had found the bird

When I went back to the quest page to ponder once more I discovered I had found it.

I don't know which one but I am very glad to have found them all.

Out of curiousity, why pelicans? They don't seem particularly piratical to me.

Sep 22, 2020, 1:02pm

Started the hunt this morning over coffee. Agreed, this one is a bit of a challenge, but so fun. So far just over half completed. #3 has me completely brain dead. Rrrrrrr. Any tips out there?

Sep 22, 2020, 1:07pm

Aye, I looove the Treasure Hunts on LT! Thanks, LibraryThing!

I agree with the others, this one was very tough to complete. I needed clues on 2, 7, 8 and 11, but got them all, finally. Thank you all so much!!!

lorax - I find the pelican sketch veeery piraty... :) (Is piraty even a word?)

Sep 22, 2020, 1:10pm

Nodecaf (#153):

First spoiler is for content, second is for type of page.

You're looking for something that might be included in a pirate's treasure chest. Think general, rather than specific, when considering the clue.

It's a tag page.

Sep 22, 2020, 1:53pm

I have them all except #16. I cannot find the right page.

Sep 22, 2020, 1:57pm

So I'm still having a hard time with #10. I tried researching previous hunts & researching religious holidays & stuff but I'm having a hard time.

Editado: Sep 22, 2020, 2:14pm

The hunt started on September 18, 2020. Figure out what holiday that was that meets the criteria described in the clue. It's not obscure.

Editado: Sep 23, 2020, 10:59am

I found this hunt last night and am going crazy trying to figure out #8, #9, #15, and #16. I just gave in and decided to come here to look at clues offered and I'm still confused. My brain is muddled! ARRRRRRRRRGH!!

*Finally figured out #8 thanks to clues!!
**Finally got #16!! I was out of order!
Still absolutely stumped on #9 and #15. I'm getting a headache!
I am finally DONE!! There is nothing more frustrating than over thinking things!!!

Sep 22, 2020, 4:11pm

I have been stumped for 3 days on #3. It seems obvious, but every thing I try associated with that and pirates comes up with a blank. Including earlier hints given at the top of this thread. At this point help would be appreciated.

I am also still working on #7 and #16, but #16 is probably beyond most of us - if the hints are anything to go on.

Sep 22, 2020, 4:19pm

I got #10, finally!

#1 is making me lose my mind, and i still need #3, #8 & #16.

does anyone need help with #16?

Sep 22, 2020, 5:12pm

Got all 16! Gee, this one was TOUGH.

Sep 22, 2020, 6:14pm

>152 lorax: It makes more sense as a Pelican edition than as a Penguin edition. ;)

Sep 22, 2020, 6:20pm

Stuck on #5 - I seemingly found the perfect answer as per the clues, but no!

Is it a book or a series?

Sep 22, 2020, 7:11pm

Regarding clues to answering #3. Metallurgy is not helping. Neither are the pirates. Or combinations of the two. Looking in tags involves 40,000 titles. I must be missing something in the clue and can't figure out what it is I am missing. I keep looking for a book title, but is it an author? I hope it is not a tag because looking through 40,000 titles is a bit daunting.

As for the other #7 and #16 I'm giving up. Maybe later in the week somebody will give a clue that makes sense or a chip will fall into place, but it ain't happenin' right now.

Sep 22, 2020, 7:13pm

>167 FemmeNoiresque: It's a book. I found this one by searching for Peter's full character name and checking the list of books. There's one that stands out for the rest of the clue.

Sep 22, 2020, 7:26pm

>168 benitastrnad: #3 It's a tag page for a type of metal once commonly used as currency.

Sep 22, 2020, 7:39pm

>170 amanda4242:
Didn't help any because I know the name of the metal. It is obvious what the word is, the problem is the combination. There are over 40,000 hits with that metal. It can't be that because the flag line doesn't show up. It must be a combination of something and I am missing the combination somehow.

Sep 22, 2020, 7:49pm

>171 benitastrnad: It's not any sort of combination. Type the word into search, click tags on the left side of the results page, and it will be the first link listed.

Sep 22, 2020, 7:58pm

Spoilers for #16

First spoiler:To get the pelican, you must log in to a translated version of LT. This is especially tricky because you only have two words with which to identify the language; if you're using google translate, you must enter *both* words *exactly* as they are written to get the correct language. Once you have the language, you will have to find the correct domain.

Second spoiler:The language is Catalan.

Third spoiler:You need to enter cat. not .cat

Editado: Sep 23, 2020, 10:47am

Well I officially have me a Squadron of Pelicans!

Wow, fun, hard hunt.

Sep 23, 2020, 8:20am

#16 is not as hard as many people make it out to be, and you certainly don't need to resort to Google.

It's obvious from the clue that you're looking for a language site.

If you know even a few words of any Romance language, you can tell which family it's in. For me, it was also clear that it isn't Spanish or French. I started trying less-familiar Romance languages from the Languages Zeitgeist tab and got it on my first try.

All the language sites are helpfully linked from Zeitgeist. You don't need to worry about figuring out how to type anything in, just click.

Sep 23, 2020, 12:31pm

mleona (#188):

I am sure I know what the word is but missing something.

The answer is not a single word.

Page type:

As implied by the last line of the clue, you are looking for a character page here.

More specifically:

This character is a famous example of the theme of the hunt. He is fictional. The name is {title} {word}, where the second word is given by the first half of the clue (descriptively in the first two lines, with rhyming words in the third and fourth. The title is suggested both by the theme of the hunt and by the sixth line which suggests it is military in nature.

Love the drawing.

Sep 23, 2020, 4:25pm

That was fun, but definitely felt harder than the last few hunts. I wouldn't have got #6, #8 or #9 without the hints on this thread. And the pelican sketch is lovely

Editado: Sep 23, 2020, 5:41pm

>191 lorax:
I didn't know that there were Character pages. I still can't tell anybody how to get to them. But eventually I managed to click on the correct place, even if I am not sure where or how. So what are the Character pages and how do they work? If I want to enter Characters into them how do I do that? Maybe those aren't questions for this page?

Still trying to get #16 and don't understand the page system at all.

Sep 23, 2020, 5:50pm

>195 benitastrnad: Yeah, it's a better question to be discussed over in the common knowledge group. Briefly: Characters are entered in common knowledge for works. Once entered on a work somewhere, a character page results, and it's possible to add additional details (character description, etc) there. All works with the same character name will link to the same character page.

If you don't want to hunt out particular works where someone has happened to have taken the time and effort to type out the characters and judged a particular character to be important enough for entry, you can also just search a character name in the main search, and then look at the common knowledge results rather than work/author results.

Sep 23, 2020, 5:58pm

>195 benitastrnad:
There are two way to get to a character's page:
1) from a work with that character, click on the character's name
2) enter the name in the main site search box at the top right, then in the search results page click Common Knowledge in the left column, then Characters

Many thanks to all who helped me. I tried again and though no banner showed up, I got all 16.

Sep 27, 2020, 3:43pm

Phew! That was a longer haul than usual, and I needed far more hints - for which many thanks to those who shared, or I'd still be down a rabbit hole.

Thank you LT and, as always, well done to conceptDawg for another cool illustration.

Well, this was the hardest one yet and it is my 12th (?) hunt. I needed help on FOUR clues. Usually I figure them out myself.

Though if I had listened to my gut, I would have had #8 (thought I had it but "stockinged part" threw me off (afterwards I figured it out - sock puppet!)) and #11 (again, thought I had it, but naaah, too obvious.)

But #15 and #16 totally lost me and I don't understand what they have to do with pirates. #16 had me off looking for a new Spanish social networking site with a pirate-ish name and I wondered how LT would know I found it! Hmm, Taringa! means "ear" - that's not it.

Stop laughing!

ETA: GORGEOUS pelican.

Thanks again, LT, for another super fun hunt. Arrgh. This one was a little tougher than the past few.

Sep 27, 2020, 5:56pm

all but #8!!!

I'm still going over all hints!

Editado: Sep 27, 2020, 6:07pm

>256 marquis784: It is a page on LT. Look at the bottom of this page to find it. I somehow got it by mistake, then couldn't figure out what it was because the answers don't show up so I need help for a pelican that I had already found.

thanks!! krazy4katz and auric79

I got it! I was going crazy! I "knew" but didn't take it that next step! Click and I was done!! :)

230 pluribus hint was what helped me

>256 marquis784: For #8:
1. Not all clues lead to books.
2. The first line states that, "We pirates have a pirate code of conduct".
3. On the bottom line of most pages is a link which outlines the "Piracy Policy"sic.

>242 krazy4katz: yes it just keeps telling me to log back in :(

good luck everyone as the countdown begins!
lots of great hints...keep scrolling until you read one that "clicks" with you!
Thanks for all the great hints!!

Sep 27, 2020, 10:13pm

Didn't see the announcement until this morning, but got 11/16 (including #16) rather quickly. Checking above now for hints on #1, 4, 6, 8, and 15. My only disappointment is that none of the "finds" seems like something I want to read. Usually I find at least one new thing for the TBR list.

Sep 27, 2020, 10:58pm

This one was really tough. I had to seek out hints for 4, 6,7, and 8. Even so, it took forever to find 4 and 6. Thanks for the fun (?). My brain has turned to jello. Thanks to ConceptDawg for the art. Nice one!

Sep 27, 2020, 11:55pm

I totally don't understand #16, so am going to be content to let it slide for this hunt. I have spent far too much time going down that rabbit hole, so time to say "See ya maties!" and quit. Maybe after it is done somebody will come back here and explain it to me and others who are looking for it.

>262 lkemeny1: For #16, Did you do the Captcha? I think they are cookbooks Not sure how to spell it.

>266 benitastrnad: Did you try LibraryThing sites in other languages?

The hints in >173 amanda4242: should get you there.

I haven't sighted any pelicans hovering around my badges yet :0)

I have a suggestion for the treasure-hunt-powers-that-be: since there are so many (wonderful) treasure hunts and if (hopefully) they are going to continue, maybe you could give them their own group so they're easy to find.

I was kind of wandering about the lack of pelicans as well.

Good suggestion on the "hunts" group. I love the hunts and am hoping there will be one for Spring.
