Do we have members familiar with Japanese-language manga releases? I would like to ask everyone who's able to help with series combinations to please watch this thread.
A series that has me stumped for now is Antique Bakery. I think the fifth through eighth volumes are the Ono-focused DJ books that, according to rumor, the author self-published after the original publisher refused to include the homoerotic sidestory in the first four volumes. If that's true, then the last four volumes might not be 5--8 in the story order. Also, I'm not sure how to confirm those volumes belong in the series core at all or as a subseries.

From the Wikipedia entry: Fumi Yoshinaga has published spinoff dōjinshi (dj) of Antique of "slash" stories involving series characters as well as stories alluded to in the four-volumes series. (I'm now thinking of the four volumes as the core.) The existence of these stories was not announced in the magazine that serialized the core series chapters. There were seven volumes available as of August 2003.
I think only the core series was released in any language but Japanese.
What to do with the spinoff? The fan site Baka-Updates has a listing of fourteen dj volumes that doesn't align with the covers here. Is that because the publication order and story order differ?

Because I don't have a solid of what's a bunko edition, I'm not sure if the Wings bunko series should be created as a publisher's series or if each of the four volumes should be combined with the main works. Is the content the same?

Bunko editions are those small format paperbacks which are very cheap. They may or may not have the same set of chapters as the proper paperback ones when split into volumes. So unless we can verify that chapter lists, combining them may be a bad idea. As it is manga, if you can verify the page number and they match, you usually can assume same chapter lists as well. If the bunko is a reprint of a manga that had already been printed in paperbacks, it will usually be split differently and won't match (bunkos serve almost as a Western-style Omnibus edition for the normal collections).
Think of Mass Market paperbacks in the US vs Premium/full sized paperbacks. Same concept except it is a bit in reverse - the bunko editions are built to last so they use very good paper.

I'm not 100% confident it was the best decision, but I've set the relationship of that series to "a reordering of" Fullmetal Alchemist.
While a discussion about translated and reordered series jumps between threads, I also set two translated series that have different number of volumes than the core of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind as reorderings. That phrase doesn't fit exactly, and I'm wondering if those series should actually be subseries. I'm much less confident about what to do with those.

>7 aspirit: Regarding Nausicaä, those two series aren't subseries; I researched the different editions when I was working on the series, and as far as I can tell they have the same content as the core, just collected differently. If I remember correctly, the Perfect Collection is just the Viz editions repackaged into four volumes; Nausicaä del Valle del Viento is the Spanish language editions.
The translations can't be combined due to collecting the series differently, so it made more sense to me to have one series with multiple groups for the translations rather than having a series for each translation; thinking back, I'm not sure why I didn't delete the two series you've set as reorderings. I have no strong feelings about how the series should be arranged, but I think if you're going to have separate series for those two editions, then really all of the different groups should have their own series, too.
