gedmatch.com ... experiences?

Has anyone used this site? It looks oddly plain, just invites me to register and start uploading data. Someone referred me to it, asking me to use it to help figure out our relationship, but it looks ... off.

There's an invitation on it to view their video, guess I can try that.

I've only used the free tools a little bit. Ancestry.com doesn't have a chromosome browser like other DNA testing sites so gedmatch can help get around that if your Ancestry match also registers at gedmatch. It can also be helpful if you are using DNApainter.com. I haven't seen any gedcoms uploaded so it seems the site would not be of much help in matching trees.

The site's biggest claim to fame so far seems to be that it provided a clue to the identity of the Golden State killer.
